Nike officially revealed their logo for Victor Wembanyama, who now will receive his own signature shoe line soon.
Nike is going all-in on Wemby as one of their next long-term faces for NBA branding.
🚨 LAS VEGAS NBA NAME UPDATE:
Could the Las Vegas Vipers actually work as a name?
Hear me out.
“Vipers” is aggressive, fast and dangerous—exactly the kind of identity that translates to basketball. It suggests quick strikes, suffocating defense, speed in transition, and a team opponents don’t want to encounter.
Vegas Venom works, too.
Visuals are easy to see.
• Fangs and venom
• Snake-scale patterns
• A coiled-V logo
• Desert imagery
• Black, red, silver and neon accents
• “The Snake Pit” as an arena nickname
• Ties in with Kobe and Black Mamba
The alliteration helps, too. Vegas Vipers is easy to say, easy to remember and immediately sounds like a professional sports franchise.
Yes, the name was previously used by a Vegas football team (does anyone even recall watching a game), so that history would have to be considered. But the football brand never became so permanent or iconic that the name couldn’t potentially be reimagined at a much larger NBA level.
The strongest argument for Vipers is simple: it feels dangerous, distinctly desert-based, and built for merchandising.
Las Vegas Vipers. Vegas Vipers. Vegas Venom.
Don't sleep on these.
Still waiting to hear what @shaq is gonna do? They probably don't want to give him the GM job. Which makes him a great fit for Iger/Kushner and not so much for MAGI.
Open to creating some stuff for the Vipers.

🚨 LAS VEGAS NBA UPDATE:
On the latest @pablofindsout, @PabloTorre made a direct prediction:
“There’s going to be an NBA team in Las Vegas soon.”
The conversation began with @TrueHoop discussing Portland’s new owner, Tom Dundon, potentially using relocation as leverage in negotiations for public arena money.
Abbott then offered “a little theory”:
• Dundon lives in Dallas.
• The Mavericks are owned by Miriam Adelson and Patrick Dumont, whose organization is headquartered in Las Vegas.
• Dundon could theoretically end up with a team in Dallas.
• The Adelson/Dumont group could then own a Las Vegas NBA team.
• Portland and Seattle could receive expansion teams.
Abbott stressed that he DOES NOT expect that entire reshuffling scenario to happen, but said it “would be tidy for everybody” because Las Vegas, Seattle and Portland are all strong NBA markets.
Important distinction: Pablo sounded confident that Las Vegas will receive an NBA team soon. Abbott’s Dallas–Vegas–Portland–Seattle scenario was clearly presented as speculation—not reporting of a completed or proposed deal.
They did not mention a team name, expansion date, arena, specific bid or ownership decision.

*ANOTHER POTENTIAL BIDDER*
Nancy Walton Laurie and Bill Laurie are considering a bid for an NBA expansion franchise in Las Vegas, according to three people familiar with the league’s process.
The Walmart heiress would bring deep pockets and a local flavor to the Vegas expansion process. She and her husband live just outside Sin City in Henderson, Nev., and are worth $17.8 billion, according to Forbes.
A representative for Walton Laurie declined to comment, while PJT Partners, the bank the NBA hired in March to evaluate league expansion in Las Vegas and Seattle, did not respond to request to comment.
Monday is the deadline for interested parties to detail their sources of capital and management plans for a Las Vegas franchise.
“Multiple various, serious groups are in the process of presenting plans to our bankers,” commissioner Adam Silver told the press after the NBA’s latest board of governors meeting. “And those plans not only include who the potential owners would be, but their vision for what Las Vegas basketball could look like: where they would play, how they would present the game. And it’s music to my ears.”
Walton Laurie is the youngest daughter of Bud Walton, who co-founded retail giant Walmart with his brother, Sam. Walton Laurie and her sister, Ann Walton Kroenke, split their father’s Walmart stock when he died in 1995.
Ann is married to Stan Kroenke, who controls the world’s most valuable sports empire with ownership of the NFL’s St. Louis Rams, EPL’s Arsenal, NBA’s Denver Nuggets, NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and MLS’ Colorado Rapids.
Nancy Walton Laurie and Bill Laurie previously owned the NHL’s St. Louis Blues, which they sold in 2006 to a group led by Dave Checketts for $150 million. This would not be couple’s first attempt at NBA ownership, with previous efforts for at least three teams—Denver (1999), Vancouver (2000) and Charlotte (2001)—falling short.
Bill Laurie nearly bought the Vancouver Grizzlies with a plan to move the team to St. Louis, but the deal broke down over relocation issues. The franchise moved to Memphis, Tenn. ahead of the 2001-02 season.
Other known contenders for an NBA expansion franchise in Las Vegas include a bid fronted by former Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger and Thrive Capital founder Josh Kushner, as well as one from Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley. A group dubbed the Las Vegas Jacks revealed plans to bid with a cap table that includes former Phoenix Suns owner Jerry Colangelo, former Turner Sports executive David Levy, American Century Investments CEO Jonathan Thomas and Prime Capital Financial chairman Scott Colangelo.

And so if you want to see what I came up with for LAS VEGAS JACKS, just say DO IT. DO IT. in the comments.
I don't expect this to have a great reach, and I only decided to work on this when I saw the fat Jack.
Because the name deserves better. ^_^

Googling other Las Vegas Jacks logos ... reveals one problem.
These designers and ChatGPT have decided that the ideal image for this basketball team is a guy in a crown with a wig and a festooned vest.
Poker and gambling graphics that are a big part of the Las Vegas design direction. But there are solutions that don't involve these.
- Cards
- Chips
- Heart, Diamonds, Clubs, Spades (all 4 together)
- Roulette
- Dice
- Slots
- Stratosphere, Luxor, et al.
these are the things I would hope whomever wins the bid avoids.

Here is the logo in question.
Cannot Control-Z on this thing.
Do you remember AI images like 4 years ago. This is what this feels like.
Seeing this is what made me decide open up Illustrator and Photoshop.
@franklinleonard sorry to bother one more time ... someone said to REMOVE THE COVER PAGE on the Nicholl Fellowship submission. Keep it anonymous. Is that true?
@franklinleonard I have 2 EVALs pending. Thus eligible for Nicholl. I noticed that we can now change our script out *during* a pending EVAL...so whatever version of the script is UP tomorrow morning when I opt-in, that's the version that gets submitted, correct?
@franklinleonard Nicholl Q: "Entries may, however, be adapted from the entrant’s original work"....My cover page says BASED ON ___________ (name of a play) *within* my screenplay BY __________ (a character) in my screenplay. It's just an Adaptation meta-wink. This an issue?
