Alex Anthopoulos's offseason as Braves President/GM was insanely bad:
- Failed to replace Joe Jimenez
- Failed to replace AJ Minter
- Non-tendered Griffin Canning (6-2 with a 2.90 ERA with Mets)
- Non-tendered Ramon Laureano who signed 1yr/$4M deal with Orioles (145 wRC+ and 1.4 WAR, higher than all Braves outfielders combined)
- Signed Jurickson Profar for 3yr/$42M (suspended 4 games into the season)
- Let Max Fried walk (8-1 with 1.78 ERA with Yankees)
- Banked on replacing Max Fried with Spencer Strider coming off elbow surgery (0-4 with 5.68 ERA)
- Did not address the shortstop position beyond trading for Nick Allen (63 wRC+)
- Extended Reynaldo Lopez guaranteeing $4M more and a 2027 season (tough to blame injuries on AA but Lopez had shoulder problems last year and needed shoulder surgery this year)
As much as we want to hate on Snitker, and some of that rightfully so, this season is more on AA and the roster construction than anything else.
@Pre_Malone@BRWalkoff@JoelReuterBR I can see Rojas getting picked, signing underslot (like Southisene last year which let Braves draft McKenzie), and going hard after someone overslot at 26.
@b_outliers Unless the Braves think they can get Bell underslot at 9 and go overslot at 26, I'd rather draft for potential/upside at 9 than get someone who is more likely a utility player if he makes it to Atlanta.
@b_outliers Is there a standout tool? Maybe a 50-55 hit tool? Looks like average speed, average power, and an average glove. Gets HBP a lot inflating his OBP (Kentucky baseball's thing). Needs shoulder surgery still (non-throwing but surgery regardless).
@peterjweldon@RonDeSantis Plan is to phase out property taxes on homesteaded properties entirely by starting at $250K and increasing so raising millage rates won't matter to homesteaded property owners in the long run. Increasing millage rates will impact commercial and non-homesteaded properties though.
@PeachStateP I don't think we get to this point though because of injuries, phantom injuries, and rest for starters. AJSS, Fuentes, Ritchie, Schwelly, and Waldrep all have options. So they probably juggle everything the rest of the year to try to keep Perez. If DFA'd, he gets scooped up ASAP.
#Braves MGR Walt Weiss said AJ Smith-Shawver is coming along well in his rehab. He is throwing bullpens with high intensity. Next step is throwing to hitters, then they can sketch out a timeline for returning to the rotation. Hurston Waldrep is basically in the exact same step.
