Assemblymember @carldemaio (R-San Diego) spoke to me earlier today after he was randomly interrupted by Speaker Pro Tem Josh Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) with birthday greetings for Democratic lawmakers and applause for those lawmakers. The interruptions came as DeMaio -- an openly gay Republican -- was in the middle of remarks expressing concerns with the language of the LGBTQ+ pride month resolution

"Democrats say they are against bullying and harassment but that is exactly what they did ," said DeMaio, later saying several Democratic lawmakers came up to him in private to apologize for what happened.

No public comment yet from Lowenthal or the Assembly speaker's office.
