Dear LeBron fans!

LeBron is a freak of nature. Nobody can deny that. He’s one of the greatest athletes we’ve ever seen, blessed with an unbelievable body, and he’s put in insane work for over two decades to keep himself in elite shape. Nothing but respect for that.

But to me, his biggest weakness has always been mental, not physical. He just doesn’t have that killer mentality that guys like Kobe, MJ, Bird, Curry, Luka, or even Brunson, have. When those guys get the ball for the final possession, fans on both sides get nervous because you know they’re looking to end the game. With LeBron, it often feels like you’re expecting a pass, a turnover, or a missed jumper. Outside of bulldozing his way to the rim like a freight train for a layup or dunk, his scoring bag has never been on that level.

The same mindset shows up in his career choices. He never had the desire to spend his entire career with one franchise the way Kobe, Dirk, Duncan, Curry, or Bird did. Like KD, he chose to form or join superteams instead of trying to climb the mountain with one organization. That’s probably one reason KD defends him so much these days: they’ve both faced similar criticism. The difference is KD got roasted for joining Golden State, while LeBron often gets a pass for doing similar things throughout his career. I just wish people kept the same energy.

And that’s all fine. Every superstar doesn’t have to be built the same. LeBron has had an incredible career and he’s absolutely an all-time great. I’ve got no problem putting him in the top 10.

What I can’t get behind is the GOAT argument. That’s where I draw the line. To me, 3.5 championships across 23 seasons just isn’t GOAT material. No matter how you slice it, 6 and 5 will always beat 3.5.

So here’s my peace offer to LeBron fans: if we can agree he’s an all-time great and comfortably top 10, but not top 5, let alone the GOAT, then we can finally stop having the same debate every summer and be friends forever.
