Uganda has one thing where it is a clear leader (we are talking human-made things, not talking waterfalls or wildlife in the parks). It’s National Social Security Fund is easily the best-run and most creative fund in Africa. Uganda's NSSF, among other things, is the largest money manager in Kenya’s infrastructure bonds and the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange in Tanzania.
I recently interviewed a senior official, and he did a “humble brag” thing. He told me they have no one to benchmark against on the continent, as they work to ensure members get their payouts in less than a day. He surprised me, saying that to improve their customer service, they have been studying the Ugandan restaurant chain Café Javas (CJ’s in Kenya). Those chaps are “years ahead of everyone”. I guess its big up to CJ’s unassuming founder Ahmed Omar Mandela.

Today, I was delighted to attend the launch of this year’s #NSSFCareerExpo. Events such as this provide great opportunities for us as individuals to pay it forward. As a first born, I have a deep appreciation for mentorship and its power to pass on knowledge to those younger than I am.
