Root causes decades in the making explained: Longer trains, less staff, aging infrastructure, resistance to safety improvements, and consolidation of rail carriers. The pursuit of endless profit increases at the expense of public safety.

The EPA is relying on the very rail company that caused the an ecological disaster in my state (and neighboring states down wind and stream) to collect and submit lab samples which determine if water is safe for residents to drink.
BREAKING: The @EPA claim that water in Ohio is "safe" to drink is based on only a few tainted lab samples funded by the very rail company that caused the disaster. The EPA apparently never tested the water.
Why does the polluter get to do the testing? ⬇️

While media coverage of the Ohio train derailment disaster has increased, it's typically to reinforce established political narratives. Independent media is thankfully not shying away from digging into why these events increasingly occur. https://t.co/R9tD4XkhKP
To help, consider supporting River Valley Organizing who is providing free soil and water tests to area residents among other things. https://t.co/OfdxeJGcuE
Don't let this go ignored. Don't think this over. Don't think it doesn't affect you and your neighbors in a myriad of ways. This is a problem for all of us in the US now and possibly for generations.
I wanted this to forever be the place I view and share useful information and snarky comments and ignore the bat-shit craziness occurring off my feed. But that's faded away for many and now for me. I hate virtue signally "I'm leaving" posts, but here I am deciding to step away.
Thankfully in the chaos following yesterday's events in Poland, a fake verified Twitter account posing as a world leader didn't provoke another country into a conflict. This platform either needs to fix itself fast (unlikely) or stop being taken seriously before it fucks us all.
@sladetim Agreed, and most companies are more discrete (not being run into the ground by an idiot). So you may not be fired for speaking up but instead get applied a label like "not a team player" that follows you through your time at an org and holds you back.
Andor is such a good show once it gets going! Just all around amazing sci-fi drama. I can't believe such well-written characters and dialogue now exist in Star Wars. And the set pieces! So unique and elaborate. Not just variations of the same recycled stuff we've come to expect.
@DevByPowerPoint And with guitar I can actually learn a song conceptually and move my hands to that with a little practice. Piano seems more like I'm slowly burning each hand motion into muscle memory. Maybe that's just me.
@DevByPowerPoint Actually, I found going from guitar to piano as an adult tough because both hands have to be doing everything at the same time. With guitar, I feel the strum/pick hand has an easier job.
@sladetim The older I get, the more I realize that is by design. When everything is (or seems like) a crisis, otherwise controversial actions can slip by unnoticed.
