Happy Birthday to @QldSugarLtd who marks 100 years since operations began back in 1923. The first cargoes of raw sugar were shipped to the UK and now 100 years on we will see up to 27k Mt shipped this season under the A-UK FTA. This rises to 100k Mt after 1 October.

Australia’s 23/24 harvest has made a strong start with 2.16 Mmt cane crushed to date, 2nd highest tonnage since 12/13. Early CCS also encouraging at 12.52 units to date, up 6.3% on last season. But heavy rain forecast over the next week likely to cause disruptions.

Australia’s ‘23/24 cane harvest officially underway this week with Tully Sugar mill opening the campaign. Australian cane production is expected to fall on last season while sugar production may reach 4.2mmt as CCS normalises. Here’s to a successful and hopefully dryer harvest!

The marathon '22/23 Aussie cane harvest finally wrapped up this week with Rocky Point mill crushing out. Will have to dust off the record books to see the last time an Aussie harvest extended into Feb. Final prod'n figures close to 32.60 mln mt of cane and 4.05 mln mt sugar.

Australia Day in Oz today and incredibly the Australian cane harvest is still running. Fitting choice of song for cutting on Oz Day. Rocky Point is the last mill still operating. Final cane crush will finish a touch over 32.5mmt.

A blow for the Aussie cane harvest as Herbert River today pulled the pin on crush ‘22/23. Estimated 400kmt cane left standover as wet weather and low cane sugar content makes crushing unviable. More rain forecast this weekend may see more mill closures. Sugar may not reach 4mmt.

@Woods_Farms Yes I’ve seen the cane harvesting videos from your part of the world (inc. in snow!) They will leave it and cut it next harvest starting late May. Sugar content is too low, and it is very late in our season, wet, more rain on the way.
