This is why my stance on 2028 is Anyone But Newsom — the worst case scenario is to once again nominate someone who leftists don’t like but who has embraced all of the leftists’ ideas.
Man our politics are dumb. I get it, it’s hard to sell the idea of simply fixing our tax code to get rid of the loopholes that exist only the wealthy. But that’s the real scam and issue. How about closing all the wealthy loopholes that Congress has essentially “sold” to lobbyists for the last 30 years. I promise you it would likely get the super rich paying more than they do now, rather than doing this class warfare cos play.
Here’s the thing, this type of performative allyship…comes from the moderate wing. Not leftists. This is not to say part of leftism isn’t about anti-racism, but it’s through the lens of class and economic issues. Moderates own the parts of identity politics you don’t like
Obama's presidential center opens with a land acknowledgment.
This seems small, but it's honestly depressing.
It indicates that moderate liberals can't keep left-wing identity politics insanity out of their own private projects. Even though it's Obama, who has expressed skepticism over wokeness, with unmatched prestige.
What hope do leftists have of cutting out the crazy stuff in an actual governing context when they have to deal with coalitions and activist groups?
Studios are going to try and recreate Backrooms success, don’t poorly, and then turn on creators and go back to doing the same thing they were doing …then that again will stop working. Then the cycle starts again
Two things…one, this graph limiting the range from 10-28% does exaggerate how sharp the increase is. Two, the spike really kicks in around 2020. What else, besides phones, could possibly have caused social isolation?
Smartphones appear to have accelerated the global fertility crisis -- by making social isolation and singledom more comfortable and entertaining.
Chatbots could nudge humanity even further in this direction. Today, digital technology doesn't just provide loners with perpetual stimulation but also, forms of emotional support that previously required real world relationships.

What specifically happened? It’s the over the top characterization you all make about cancellation like the Orwell reference of unpersoning that’s insane. Kat lost some career opportunities. You can think that’s fair or unfair, buts it’s not this tragedy
I think the downside risk is more about capex and inflated valuations, right? But also…isn’t rapid price inflation a classic symptom of an economic bubble?
We're getting another round of THE AI BUBBLE IS POPPING stories, with the news about Uber/Microsoft pulling back on AI subscriptions bc their agent costs went crazy.
Maybe. But, per below, GPU rental prices are still up 2x from where they were four months ago. It doesn't seem like demand is slowing down, at all. When, eg, NYC hotel prices are twice as high as they were last year, you shouldn't believe people telling you that nobody is going to NYC anymore.
Maybe someone smarter than me can correct me on this logic, but if the price for accessing AI compute is skyrocketing, that's because demand is still significantly outrunning supply, which sounds to me like the opposite of the beginning of the end of a bubble.
The vitriol Barro and this group of centrist pundits have for unions and environmental lobbies is so bizarre. Like, who hurt you? Also, you can’t be pro affordability and anti-union. It’s a relative scale and if workers have less from undermined collective bargaining…get it?
Yglesias had a piece this morning asking whether Dems who talk "affordability" are serious prioritizing low prices over other goals. I'd say Kathy Hochul is passing that test: she's stood up to trial lawyers, the LIRR unions, and environmental groups. https://t.co/oNEj4X3SZk
I will be breaking my silence soon & going on TBPN to discuss the future of AI, autonomous defense, robotics and biotech and energy infrastructure
@sama, let me know if you want to meet after. We are still in the early innings of American Dynamism. Much to discuss 🤝 🎥
People should be very careful criticizing this.
The public's take away will be that you don't want the tax system to be more progressive. That you're an enemy of the average person.
Jeff is playing a smart game here.
Buy a man a fish, he eats for a day…pay a man a menial wage to work 12 hour days and piss in bottles on a factory floor and he’ll eat at least sometimes
Why stop there? Take their taxes into the negative! The government gives the bottom 50% of earners cash payments. Maybe monthly? Maybe some of it should be in services they can’t afford? Like medical care and housing (crazy expensive right?).
Thank you. The important part is zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. Best way to put money in someone’s pocket is to not take it out in the first place. Bottom half is only 3% of total tax revenue. But it’s very meaningful to that person. Zero it out.
I think voters’ preferences are much more complicated than a simple center/left framework captures. But still, important reminder that a majority of Dems—when given that framework—want the party to move to the center.
