I run it, and once you go MCP, you won't go back. I don't open anything but GSC at this point, and I don't actually need to. Could have Claude get GSC via SuperMetrics MCP, but it's nostalgic. Same now with Ahrefs. I have Claude turn whatever data into the shape I need it in when I need it.

Sometimes beauty is born of tragedy.

Story time:

My wife grew up in the small town of Anacortes, Washington, and went to high school with a kid named Cameron McCool. In 2003, Cameron’s father, astronaut Willie McCool, was killed when the Space Shuttle Columbia broke apart during reentry, while all the students at Anacortes High School, including my wife and Cameron, were watching on live TV.

Willie was a source of enormous pride for Anacortes, and his death hit the community hard. My wife remembers how devastating it was, especially watching someone her own age lose his dad in such a public and heartbreaking way.

Cameron poured much of that grief and emotion into his art. He went on to art school, became an accomplished painter, and over the years my wife continued to follow his career. She would occasionally tell me how much she would love to own one of his paintings someday.

Four years ago, several months before our anniversary, I quietly reached out to Cameron on Instagram.

I sent him several photographs of my wife and asked if he would be willing to paint a portrait of her as an anniversary gift. He agreed, gave me a price for a small-to-medium-sized piece, and we started making plans.

Then, one morning shortly before he was going to begin painting, I awoke to find my wife asleep with one of our daughters tucked into each arm.

I quietly reached for my phone and took a picture.

Almost on a whim, I sent it to Cameron and asked, “What if we did this instead?”

He loved it.

In fact, he told me he loved the subject so much that he didn’t want to paint it small.

He wanted to paint it big.

I asked what that would do to the price, and he told me he wouldn’t charge me anything more. He just felt like this was the painting he needed to make.

So the small portrait I had budgeted for became this beautiful, oversized canvas.

I kept the whole thing secret and unveiled it to my wife on our anniversary.

We just celebrated our 19th anniversary, and I still don’t think I’ve ever given her anything that has meant more.

It hangs in our home, where she sees it every day coming down the stairs: a snapshot of a fleeting season of our lives, of two little girls who won’t stay little forever, and of the role that has brought her so much joy: being their mom.

I can’t thank Cameron enough for creating this beautiful piece of artwork, which I hope will be an heirloom for generations.
