Para 2019–2022, por el contrario, la Argentina había sido superada en publicaciones científicas por Chile, Brasil y Uruguay, países que, junto con Costa Rica, también la superaban en patentes.

De hecho, Chile hoy publica más del doble de artículos científicos y técnicos por habitante que la Argentina y registra casi tres veces más patentes internacionales. Los inventores argentinos, mientras tanto, registran menos patentes internacionales que a principios del milenio.
