The BBC has agreed to pay £400,000 to an award-winning Jewish documentary-maker who alleged she was subjected to antisemitism and pushed out of the corporation after October 7.

Lucie Kon, 57, spent 22 years at the BBC and worked on programmes including Panorama, Today, BBC Breakfast and Storyville. Films she commissioned or helped produce won an Oscar, Emmy and Bafta.

Kon says her treatment changed dramatically after the Hamas attacks. She alleges colleagues described Zionists like her as “evil”, argued that Israel should be called terrorist if Hamas was, and told her to consider what had driven Hamas to carry out the massacre.

When she proposed a documentary about October 7, Kon says she was told she was “too partial” to oversee it because she was Jewish.

She subsequently filed a formal grievance, but a BBC investigation rejected her complaint. Kon says she was then kept away from work for months. During a restructuring, her position was made redundant and she failed to secure the similar role replacing it.

She launched unfair-dismissal proceedings.

The BBC has now agreed substantial compensation, reported as £400,000, without admitting liability or accepting that Kon suffered antisemitism.

Kon says Jewish employees still at the corporation continue to face hostility and feel unable to identify openly as Jewish or Zionist.

NYC Council Speaker @JulieMenin voted YES on the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act, which restricts how owners of certain apartment buildings can sell their properties.

Her husband, Bruce Menin, is a founding principal of Crescent Heights, a real estate developer with over $14 billion in projects nationwide, including NYC.

I’d like to know whether any properties owned by her husband or his business interests are subject to the same restrictions she just voted to impose on other property owners.

Zohran should know that the very @transportworker NYC Transit Workers who delivered them to Greenpoint are under attack in contract negotiations by Hochul and her real estate mogul @MTA CEO, who are demanding massive healthcare concessions. Having to fulfill commitments and campaign alongside Hochul must be absolutely embarrassing to Zohran (on the inside). Hochul has scabbed the very picket lines that Zohran has walked in solidarity with workers. She’s scabbed the NYC Nurses strike. She’s scabbed the @LIRR workers’ and proactively tried to break their unions. Hochul’s overall trade union record is humiliating for @TheDemocrats . Right now, as Zohran keeps his promises to campaign with her , Hochul has a demand on the bargaining table to totally strip NY-NJ Port Authority workers of retiree medical benefits. These are all actions that Zohran would be completely opposed to . But business is business and commitments must be kept .
