Thai foreign minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Thailand’s representative at today’s historic first UNCLOS meeting, used the occasion to level unverified accusations against Cambodia, rather than stating Thailand’s position regarding the conciliation mechanism.
He also warned Cambodia that there would be “consequences” for electing to initiate the peaceful UNCLOS mechanism.
The most powerful person in charge of justice and the Minister of Foreign Affairs faced off with Thailand over a maritime boundary dispute.
According to the Ministry of Interior, out of over 640,000 displaced people, 20,281 people, including 10,331 women and 6,066 children, remain in the camps as of July 23, 2026. Fifteen schools and seven hospitals in border regions in Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey and Preah Vihear are still closed.
During the July and December conflicts last year, 1,588 houses, seven private-owned civilian buildings, 10 hotels, four gas stations, one private market, 44 vehicles, 26 schools, 19 pagodas, 14 schools, and four ancient temples were damaged by the Thai military.
“It is certainly a strong possibility that the Thai army and possibly the monarchy wanted to restart the border conflict to help pro-military and pro-monarchy parties” writes @JoshKurlantzick

The whole world is unfair right now. Just because THAI is more popular, everyone who don't know Khmer history believes them. That's unfair for my small country. We had been through countless wars before, so now we just want peace.

The whole world is so unfair to us. We're just a small developing country who loves justice and peace but always got abused by Thailand. Just because our voice is small, no one wanted to side with us, instead they chose to support and believe on liars.

Innocent Children Impacted by Ongoing Armed Conflict
PHNOM PENH – Many children have sought temporary shelter amid ongoing border clashes between Cambodia and Thailand.
Displaced by the violence, families have been forced to leave their homes, with children losing access to schooling and basic necessities.
The Cambodian Education Ministry reports that ongoing border conflicts have impacted 130,000 students and teachers across 14 cities and districts in border provinces as the fighting enters its third day.
The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) also called for both sides to maintain “maximum control," emphasizing that children must be protected at all times and schools should stay safe spaces for learning.

Thailand fired at Cambodia first. This is an act of invasion, not just a border dispute. Cambodia is a small country that is being violated by Thailand.

Cambodia is under attack, and the world’s silence is deafening — history will remember who stood for peace and who stood by idly.
