REMINDER FOR DRIVERS‼️ Drive slowly on country roads. I have seen two dead 🦔this week and one of them was only a baby 💔Obviously, drivers can’t swerve animals BUT people must stop speeding on country roads. If they went slower, they might stop in time.
Went through this after finishing my undergrad and I'm sure it's still the case after a masters. This is such an issue in general but ESPECIALLY within the environmental sector and grad jobs BARELY exist that are directly related conservation. All we can do is persevere💪
So amazing to see the interesting research my #marvellousMSc cohort is doing! Many of us had to change projects so it's nice to get an idea of what others have been up to! #DICECON20

In recognition of all of this, in 2019 @UniKent was awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for excellence in “Education, research and capacity-building by the Durrell Institute to support global nature conservation and protect biodiversity and ecosystems”.

5/6 #HumWild1#DICECON20 Interim results: 🇬🇧👥 are more tolerant towards living with 🐘 than 👥 from 🇿🇲&🇳🇦, suggesting: 🇬🇧👥 are not able to fully comprehend African realities & more awareness is needed around their influence on African wildlife policies. Tolerance drivers TBD 📈
1/6 Hello #DICECON20😊Thanks for the opportunity to present my masters dissertation research! This summer ☀ I have been conducting a rapid evidence assessment (REA) of large herbivore impacts on vegetation in relation to #rewilding 🌲🌳🌼🌱 #ConsEffect2
@TallyYoh @DICE_Kent With the increased amount of vegetation, there is an increase in carbon sequestration which is great for #climatechange mitigation 🙌
@TallyYoh @DICE_Kent Of course! Lots of research shows that large herbivores specifically are ecosystem engineers and that them just being there - disturbance, browsing, grazing - creates different habitats and niches so that nature (fauna and flora) can thrive!🌻🌺🌿🐸🪱🪲🐍
@wildlifeinwater Hi Kevin, I haven't come across any that have compared them experimentally but there are definitely some reviews that look at various species, some native and some alien/non-native, and the impacts of both!
6/6 I am currently analysing my data & hope to get results that will help with ongoing & future #rewilding projects! #shoutout to my supervisor Prof Richard Griffiths and @DICE_Kent for funding my project 🙌#DICECON20#ConsEffect2
5/6 I used REA to search the academic literature for studies of European large herbivores which incl. 1. Release/addition of large herbivores (e.g. bison, reindeer) 🦌 & 2. Their impact on vegetation 🌱 #DICECON20#ConsEffect2
