I just exercised my right as a Member of Congress to conduct an unannounced oversight visit of the ICE field facility in Baltimore. The staff I met with respected my right to visit, but what I saw was disgraceful. Kristi Noem has a budget of $75 billion she could use to ensure humane conditions, but we saw 60 men packed into a room shoulder-to-shoulder, 24-hours-a-day, with a single toilet in the room and no shower facilities. They sleep like sardines with aluminum foil blankets. Whether it’s for three days or seven days, nobody would want a member of their family warehoused there. The room set aside for dangerous criminals and violent offenders was empty. We’re demanding immediate answers and action.
Here are the facts: the 7 states where 2/3 of Americans don't have a passport. All of them are red states: West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Yes, that's your home state, Scott.
Married women whose married names aren't on their birth docs would face extra hurdles. Just because you don't care, doesn't mean it isn't a real issue.
It took 17 years for Real ID (with similar citizenship requirements in some states) to actually be implemented in the US. Do YOU think that's because Americans are "too dumb" to figure it out?
Oh and BTW, according to the SAVE ACT, most Real IDs wouldn't count.
After Ghislaine Maxwell pleaded the Fifth during her deposition with the House Oversight Committee, the NewsNight panel debated the politics of calling her to testify and her quid pro quo offer to exonerate President Donald Trump in the Epstein probe in exchange for clemency.
I put these two clips of Daddy together because I want to share him saying “I’m tired of marching,” then, after continuing the multifaceted work of nonviolence, saying “I’ve been to the mountaintop.”
The 2nd clip is from the speech he gave the night before he was assassinated.

I wrote a little about what Jesse Jackson's legacy teaches us about this populist moment we may be in and about that bizarre Trump/Mamdani meeting we witnessed 2 weeks ago: https://t.co/39KLgfCfW5
A dog was diagnosed with depression after suffering a miscarriage, and vets decided that working with kids at a local school would be good for her. She has never been happier. ❤️❤️❤️
Review just in from @washingtonpost:
“A Dream Deferred: Jesse Jackson and the Fight for Black Political Power” is Abby Phillip’s splendid effort to give this political chapter of Jackson’s life the recognition it rightfully deserves.
