The stage is now set, and the countdown has officially begun for the TotalEnergies CHAN 2024 tournament, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) clusters the 19 national football teams during the CHAN draws held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, a spectacular prelude to the games set for August 2025.

Our very own champions, Harambee Stars, are ready to take on Morocco, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia in what promises to be an electrifying competition on home soil.

We welcome the confidence CAF has shown in Kenya and the East African region to host this prestigious tournament. I commend CAF, the Football Kenya Federation, and the Local Organizing Committee for delivering an outstanding event tonight at the KICC.1/2

Kenya welcomes the confidence and strong interest from Japanese companies, as a top investment destination choice in Africa.

I had the honor of hosting H.E. Fujii Hisayuki, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, H.E. Hiroshi Matsuura, the Ambassador of Japan in Kenya, and their high-level delegation.

I look forward to inaugurating the three days Kenya-Japan Business Forum Summit at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi on Thursday. As a government, we look forward to further showcasing Kenya’s abundant investment opportunities during the Osaka Expo 2025 in Japan, which will run from April to June 2025.

H.E President William Ruto has been at the forefront of efforts to attract Japanese investment into our Economic Zones and Manufacturing Sectors, which will, in turn, inspire local investment across the country. This forum offers an invaluable opportunity to further strengthen the economic ties between Kenya and Japan.

I call upon Kenyans to show their unwavering support by attending the matches in large numbers and cheering for our national team at its best.

Today, I reviewed the preparations at KICC and inspected the ongoing construction work at both Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, in addition to visiting the training grounds at Kasarani and the Police Sacco grounds. I am pleased to announce that Kenya is fully prepared to host the Total Energies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 draw, which will take place this Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.

The hosting of the draw exemplifies CAF’s confidence in Kenya to host both the prestigious draw and tournament and sets the stage for the momentum leading up to the highly anticipated tournament.

On behalf of the Government of Kenya, I extend a warm welcome to the 19 participating teams who continue to intensify their preparations for the tournament.

Kenya Does it again. For the second year in a row, Kenya has received the bulk of start-up investments and retains its start-up funding hub status in Africa. Kenya secured 638 M $ in 2024. This is under strategic interventions by President @WilliamsRuto both at the macro and micro levels. At macro level, we boast of a low inflation regime, healthy forex reserves, and stable exchange rates and now interest rates are coming down.

In the area of Youth Governance, I emphasized my commitment to empowering the youth to reach their full potential, particularly at the grassroots level. As the National Youth Council elections approach, I am confident that this leadership will play a crucial role in addressing the myriad challenges facing our young people.

We will collaborate closely with county governments, employing a multidisciplinary approach to help our youth harness their talents across various sectors, especially in the Creative Economy to not only unlock opportunities but also elevate their livelihoods. 2/4

Today, I officially assumed office as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports, receiving the baton from Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, who now takes over as CS for Interior. Alongside Hon. Murkomen, we inspected the progress of construction works at Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums, which are critical infrastructure in upcoming CHAN tournaments slated for February.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Murkomen for laying a solid foundation and fostering progressive momentum during his tenure.

As I take on this role, I want to reassure all stakeholders in the youth, creative, and sports sectors of my unwavering commitment to delivering results in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) for this Ministry. 1/4

This morning, I chaired a virtual PAMOJA CHAN Ministerial Meeting alongside Hon. Peter Ogwang, my sports counterpart from Uganda, and Hon. Prof. John Kabudi from the United Republic of Tanzania. We reviewed our collective preparedness in hosting the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

Kenya, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania have affirmed their confidence in hosting the tournament in February. 1/2
