Ok. They were being cagey and ambiguous.
I’ll grant that St Mary Major may limit all masses to an hour because they get numerous requests. They have to get folks in and out on time.
And maybe the basilica did have an event - why not say what event that was?
As for not processing outside - that’s just plain mean.
They don’t want anything that smacks of the TLM to be seen.
After all, if it was only traditional vestments they were worried about, they would make all Eastern churches dress like Vatican II liberals.
Which is why I call bullshit on this whole thing. I’m not particularly trad, one way or the other, but I hate politics in church. And that is what this is.
Mobile homes aren’t moved because many communities ban having them. Existing ones are grandfathered.
Most “mobile” homes these days are actually modular homes brought in on a truck then set on a permanent foundation.
I can’t knock a property owner charging land rent, in theory.
His tenants signed the lease knowing they were obligated to pay it. If that lease did not include a rent cap then that is too bad but they did sign the lease. And modular homes don’t appreciate anyway. No matter what the salesman says. If you don’t care about that and just want a cheap place of your own and concentrate on your 401k instead, that may be a better way to go.
A more difficult situation is the city of Baltimore. Most of the row houses built there sit on land that requires land rent. It is an old Irish custom and Baltimore is one of the few cities that still has it. Complain about moving a trailer all day, but try moving a row house. The city is SLOWLY -too slowly - trying to get the lots converted into an asset the house owner can actually own outright.
For fourteen years, everyone thought U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant John Chapman died in the first two minutes on top of a freezing 10,000-foot mountain in Afghanistan.
Then modern image technology unlocked the thermal camera footage recorded by a Predator drone circling high in the clouds on March 4, 2002.
When Pentagon investigators watched the enhanced screen, hardened combat generals broke down in tears. Because the video proved that after everyone else had left the mountain peak, John Chapman woke up alone in the snow and fought an entire army by himself.
That night on the peak of Takur Ghar, thirty-six-year-old Chapman, a father of two little girls from Connecticut, had charged uphill through thigh-deep snow alone to silence an enemy bunker and save his pinned-down team. Hit from a second bunker, he fell motionless. Believing he was dead, the surviving team was forced to retreat down the ridge.
Chapman was not dead.
The drone footage showed him regaining consciousness in the pitch-black snow, surrounded on three sides by enemy fighters, with nine separate wounds in his body.
In total darkness, with no comrade beside him and nobody on earth watching except a silent camera in the sky, he refused to surrender. For more than an hour, he fought from inside the bunker, killing an enemy fighter in bare-handed close combat when they tried to rush him.
Then, at dawn, Chapman heard the heavy thump of rotor blades in the mist.
An American Chinook helicopter carrying twenty-three U.S. Army Rangers was flying straight toward the peak to rescue him, right into the sights of an enemy rocket launcher.
Chapman knew that if he stayed safe inside the rock bunker, those twenty-three young Americans in the helicopter would be blown out of the sky.
So on the thermal video, investigators watched John Chapman deliberately climb out of the bunker, stand up tall in the open snow, and fire into the enemy positions to draw every machine gun on the mountain onto his own chest.
He died in the snow as the sun rose, shielding the incoming helicopter with his life.
True bushido is what a warrior does when he thinks nobody will ever know his story. The sky was watching, John. And America will remember your name forever.
Some theories are circulating online about the Latin Mass pilgrimage, spread by people unconnected with it.
Some clarity below —
Organisers asked for permission for the Vatican Mass, via a letter delivered directly to Pope Leo by Bishop Schneider in December. The pilgrimage is in its 15th year, and is always held on the same date.
Organisers received no answer about the Mass until August, when the Secretariat of State replied to say they could not have Mass in the Vatican. Pilgrimage organisers then announced publicly that no Mass would take place in the Vatican.
Instead, pilgrims would process into the Vatican at 1pm on the Saturday, and then go to St Mary Major for a 3pm Mass. Permission for the procession into the Vatican was granted in April 2026.
Weeks after this, in September, St Peter’s announced an event taking place at 3:30pm at the Altar of the Chair (used by the pilgrimage last year for Mass).
Then this week – just yesterday I am told – organisers received another letter from the Secretariat of State informing them they could not even process into the Vatican as planned, and as permitted since April. Basilica events are not the prerogative of the Secretariat but of the Archpriest & the Fabric of St Peter’s: hence why the Secretariat of State’s involvement is so strange.
On Saturday, pilgrims walked through the streets up to the obelisk in St. Peter’s Square – accompanied by Italian state police – where they were stopped by the Vatican as this was the limit of the Italian police’s jurisdiction.
Then they were informed that their usage of St Mary Major’s had changed: they could only be inside for an hour.
Thus meaning that the planned and authorised pontifical solemn Mass would have to be a low Mass.
Also St Mary Major’s informed pilgrimage that no official photos could be taken
@dianemontagna Jericho!
Jericho!
Jericho!
March around the Vatican at least seven times with every loudspeaker and all the incense you can muster like the Marines and Noriega.
Process anyway. March around it seven times singing, praying, and offering incense like the ancients around Jericho. LOUDLY. In fact, keep it up day and night on every loudspeaker and portable altar you can muster like the Marines did to Noriega until he come out crying for mercy.
I hope this passes and the California billionaires pay their billions and California pisses the money away on 3 additional inches of high speed rail and Californians vote themselves 10% of all wealth in 2030
