Getting VC backing is a fools errand.
New research says 88% of US venture-backed founders receive ZERO financial proceeds from their company ownership at exit, while the top 1% capture 79% of the total exit value.
Not a small study. They looked at 157k startups and 348k founders across the last 40 years. They searched through actual SEC filings and a dozen other sources.
Almost 9 out of 10 got zip. Nada. Zilch. Nothing to show for the stress and even the success of their venture.
Now this doesn’t mean the companies didn’t become profitable or valuable. The VCs know how to structure deals so they get paid a return first. The founders go to the back of the line.
Imagine building a company worth hundreds of millions. Then when it sells you get absolutely none of it. Wow.
Now imagine an alternate universe. You and a cofounder stay away from VC funds. You build businesses that is worth millions or even tens of millions. You can sell it, keep it or close it. If you sell it, you get the proceeds.
I’ve been asked many times why I’ve never taken VC money - it’s never felt like a good deal - and this research shows it’s not… https://t.co/xRWCzJZZ9c
@thepaulthomson@OpenAI I’m building ai augmented residential plan review. It scans plans like a building department then flags for review. Building official still makes the final decisions, but should speed up permit approval. Codex has been a big part.
Quite remarkable: a daily peptide pill lowered LDL cholesterol by 57% in a trial of 2,904 adults, nearly all already taking statins.
Placebo LDL rose 3%. At one year, the enlicitide group was still 50% below baseline.
Adverse-event rates were similar in both groups.

Our democracy rests on the rule of law. When someone—no matter how powerful they are—is suspected of a criminal act, our justice system investigates, charges, and convicts them in accordance with due process.
A startup this weekend pitched me a crawlspace bot for HVAC technicians.
What do you think?
According to them it’s safer, since techs run into snakes, black widows, raw sewage from broken drains, old pipe wrap that might be asbestos, and wet ground near wiring, and knowing what’s down there changes how you go in.
It saves time because you can diagnose from the hatch, crawl once with the right parts, and find out whether a tight spot will fit you before you’re halfway in.
And it ie helps sells the job... homeowners never see their crawlspace, so showing them the disconnected duct or the leak on a phone makes the repair much easier to approve, and the video doubles as before-and-after proof.
Pretty interesting!
A game developer with 13 years of experience says he used Claude Code to build his own 3D asset pipeline.
Describe an asset → Python drives Blender in the background → export a .glb with rigs, animations and collision geometry.
Claude helped build the generation scripts, local API and desktop interface.
The builder takeaway: domain expertise helps define what to automate and what usable output should look like.
Would you ship AI-generated game assets, or keep them for prototyping?
