I agree with the sentiment that roll cancel invulnerability is key to the game, but left unchecked, it's also pretty broken.
There's gotta' be a middle ground (which my hack attempts), and hopefully Capcom finds it at the end of all this, even if it doesn't follow my example.
The notion of gatekeeping EO changes is odd. EO kind of does it to itself with its platform lock and design choices.
Regardless, if you want to try the EO update, and keep roll cancelling, you can do that today (and I even documented all the EO changes): https://t.co/4zsS2CcG6G

The CVS2 EO Version is causing an upset to the CVS2 community and things are being "Gatekept" so I wanted to talk about my thoughts on the matter

@JWonggg There's no good answer I feel, as roll cancelling without any downside is very broken, but the game is broken without it (invincible reversals are key today).
I put out this hack that tries to balance it, in the hopes that Capcom would try themselves.

@Breadloaf566908 Downside in either case is you lose out on the 50 Hz output that I believe is native to the original PAL release, but most likely nobody cares about they, since it behaves as you mention, anyway.
With all these anniversaries and other big happenings in the world of Capcom and SNK, there's one more thing you may perhaps enjoy today:
Capcom vs SNK Pro is now available in English for the Dreamcast.
Now's your chance to see who's the real King of Fighters!
@Breadloaf566908 There's probably two ways to fix it if the original JP version didn't engage the 50 Hz mode on PAL consoles. One is to remove the PAL whitelisting from the game, which would make ODEs spoof as JP, and not engage 50Hz, and the other is to implement Derek's fix, which he showed me.
@DerekPascarella@Real_Gaea Actually, scratch that, you'll want to remove or truncate at least some of padding, which is COMPOT.BIN, DC15POL.BIN, and DC15TEX.BIN. Cut any of those off to about 10 kb or so, and it should be fine.
@DerekPascarella@Real_Gaea For CvS Pro, no need to downsample or anything. It could quite easily fit on a CD-R, even with a few of the files that are outright just padding.
It's just been years and years since I made any bootable CDIs, and I've long since removed my old beatup Dreamcast disc drive.
@DerekPascarella @TadeuBF2 Thanks. I'd hate to throw out what I've already done, and I wouldn't want to impose on you, man.
For this, we were coming down to the wire here, and I really didn't want conflict with any official releases, so I figured I'd go with what I had and see if people wanted it later.
@DerekPascarella @TadeuBF2 In terms of the retranslation, it's of the original Japanese, but the quotes are just the general set, yes.
I've done most of the translation already for all of it, but the polish/review by myself is a nightmare. If people really wanted it, I'd do it, like I did with CVS Pro.
@DerekPascarella @TadeuBF2 I mean, I actually already did it for the most part, though in fairness it's my own retranslation (out of respect for the translators on this project): https://t.co/4zsS2CcG6G
My childhood SNES has had its edges enhanced, courtesy of @Voultar
It's a pretty significant improvement. This title screen was incredibly smeared before, even in a CRT.
@GameSack@St1ka I'll be honest, paying for YouTube Premium is the best way to deal with ads and ensure people get paid. It also gives you higher quality videos on top of that.
@PricePartDeux More and more people are popping over day by day. Tons of devs pop up in my feed, which is great, lots of artists, and FGC and retro scene is growing too.
They could still use some extra features on that site, but right now it's very enjoyable to browse.
@MyLifeInGaming @sjake333 I listened to the podcast and he said SEGA wanted a one time fee, which is reasonable. His per-unit royalty cost was very high for what he is offering, and that's not counting other fees he could have asked for.
From a business standpoint, it's not worth it, sorry to say.
@NeoCverA I see they're still not confident with the line scrolling effects from CPU interrupts. An A53 should be able to do it, I think.
Also, a DPAD? No clicky stick? They could have a whole business with replacement parts for it.
@NeoCverA@WDK2008 I personally prefer the layout as they have it. Makes more sense for 90% of the titles, to me at least.
Punch / Shoot on the very bottom button? Jump on the far right? Makes no sense.
@GameSack@Voultar Did Studio Alex work with them 3 more times? I thought Game Arts made the PS/SS remakes without Studio Alex, and that was the whole reason they got into the lawsuit.
I would imagine Studio Alex wouldn't be too found of WD siding with Game Arts.
@PricePartDeux@N3OCK1 I wouldn't mind them being less blurry, fizzly, and overall smeared with odd artifacts.
So many top tier games look worse than N64 games with all the reconstruction, temporal ghosting and smearing, and other modern AA solutions.
