Many thanks to @PressAwardsuk for this and all those amazing people @DailyMirror, but mostly for the incredible, clever and inspiring @realmissfiona for sharing her story..
Yesterday, I was at the Council of Europe to speak in a debate on the rise of the far-right.
I stood up for refugees who are being demonised across Europe.
Refugees are not our enemies. They are not our rivals. They are human beings trying to reach a place of safety.
Today, I'm thinking of all those in Israel and Palestine suffering unimaginable pain, trauma and fear.
The horrific attacks on civilians in Israel were deplorable. This cannot justify the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians, who are paying the price for a crime they did not commit.
Half of Gaza’s population are children. Trapped in an open-air prison without food, water, gas or electricity, they are watching their homes turn to rubble with nowhere to go.
We should condemn the use of violence against all civilians, Israeli and Palestinian. And we must renew our calls for an immediate ceasefire to prevent any further loss of life.
In times of war, we need more voices for peace — and the only way to achieve peace is to end the occupation.
So @Ryanair cancels our flight back to London from Bucharest this morning & says the next available flight with them is on Sept 9. Everything else is either booked or ridiculously expensive. But I've found a way home much sooner with no help from them... via Chisinau and Istanbul
"We're doing everything we can" was a shrug by staff at Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest this morning and no warning our flight would be affected until we arrived at the airport.
To save lives in London we need to clean up our toxic air.
I’ve heard concerns from some Londoners about their non ULEZ compliant vehicles, and that’s why we’re expanding the scrappage scheme eligibility, providing support for thousands more Londoners. https://t.co/6pyfUkfHbE

We suspended the #NUJReachStrike on Friday to get back around the table with Reach PLC and after 2 days of talks we were on the threshold of a resolution. However, earlier today talks collapsed because Jim Mullen PERSONALLY REJECTED the idea of an improved consolidated pay offer
Imagine being responsible for the largest ever backlog in the Crown Courts
Responsible for victims of the most horrifying crimes having to wait years for justice - if it ever arrives
Responsible for the shutdown of the courts
And just not caring
This is @DominicRaab’s legacy.
I invite @BrandonLewis to attend outside the Old Bailey tomorrow and tell one of my junior colleagues grossing £12k a year for a 70-hour week that they are not underpaid.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
It is easy to get lost in a fog of statistics, but let this sink in. In the third quarter of 2020, only 6 Crown Court trials were abandoned because of a lack of advocates. By the end of 2021, that figure had increased to 280. We are not crying wolf. There are too few of us.
