Fully funding special education would benefit ALL students. Right now, schools divert funds from other areas to provide necessary special education services. Let's make sure every Kansas student is getting the resources they need to succeed.
Good morning, #ksed! The deadline to submit written or oral testimony to the Task Force on Special Education and Related Services Funding is 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 3. Submit to [email protected]. The TF meets at 1 pm on Jan. 5 in Room 112-N.
At KASB, we see Kansas' bright future in our public schools. This week, join our excitement as we share uplifting news from across the state, celebrating the upcoming school year. #CelebrateKSED
Thanks to an incompetent judge, police in Marion County illegally raided the office of the Marion County Record, an independently owned newspaper in Marion County, KS.
This is outrageous. Every single one of those cops should be fired.

In an unprecedented raid Friday, local law enforcement seized computers, cellphones and reporting materials from the Marion County Record office, the newspaper’s reporters, and the publisher’s home. #ksleg https://t.co/2nUbJQooJS
An open letter to my Senator and Representatives after the Kansas State Chamber dinner last night. Caution, lengthy tweet you’ll need to click on it to see the entire letter.
Good morning gentlemen.
I enjoyed our time spent conversing at dinner last night. I was moved by a few statements Secretary Pompeo made. Most importantly, he stated ‘we should protect the things we see and not just what we’re told,’ and ‘problems arise if we lose faith in a basic set of facts.’ He also talked about our strength as a country, stating the current divisiveness as an impediment to progress, and that if ‘we lose faith in a basic set of facts, perhaps there’s a chance we won’t get this thing (the ability to work together), back’. He also stated ‘when we all work collectively’ we can get the tough things done.
Obviously we hear statements like these through our unique lens and our current perspective. I related these words to the great American public education system. Despite occasional flaws and hiccups, we have a great system. There are problems, there is a need to be concerned. Most of the problems I hear legislators (not necessarily you, but across our state and nation) are issues more related to societal shortcomings. Unfortunately these issues make their way into our schools and in order to get children to a place where we can teach them, we have to move obstacles out of their way. These include hunger, mental health issues, unsafe home lives, drugs…
I implore you to vote no on any voucher bills and run a clean bill for an education budget. I understand the arm twisting that goes on over many of these bills, but I firmly believe there is a better way. When Sec. Pompeo stated we should protect the things we see and not what we’re told, I immediately thought about many of the false narratives associated with schools and educators starting at a national level and broadcast on national media.
I want to provide you with an open opportunity to visit our schools. Not just on my tour of what’s great, tell me what you’d like to see. I want to point out success stories, but I also want to point out the areas that are challenging, the things that make teachers go home in tears some nights because they don’t know how to help some of our students and their families. Sec. Pompeo, near the end of his speech, said ‘when we all together work collectively,’ we can conquer anything. I believe this wholeheartedly.
Good luck in the final days of session and know I am here to answer any questions or provide any point of clarification if you need.
I hope to see you after the session, next month and next fall, and I hope you take advantage of opportunities to get to know your local school systems and their staff and offer your assistance and guidance of how we can all together work collectively on this complex issue.
Thank you
#ksed, #ksleg, here’s the KSDE “run” showing district-by-district $ loss under SB 113, total loss $215 million in 24-25 school year. This violates the Gannon school finance settlement. 🧵
@CornerCommishCR The 30 minutes of CPR/AED and an ambulance on the field should have made the decision for the NFL. Did you see those players? There is no way they were going to beable to play.
And anyone voting for bills against their local schools is voting against the futures of their communities. You will see more consolidation, more online learning, and a continued decline in the teaching profession. Western Kansas is already feeling it. #ksleg#ksed
Hey Game On team, we have a significant number of legislators who don't seem to have an accurate picture of what's actually happening in our schools and what is and is not sound education policy. #ksleg#ksed
Day 2! Nothing is better than a room full of educational leaders and professionals ready to learn and improve education for all students in Kansas. #KASBconvention
