Harsh: No matter how desperately you torture spreadsheets and contort exchange rates, the simple truth is that nobody knows how the world will look in 2075 or even in 2047.
What we do know is that in 2026 China is far ahead of India across a range of parameters, and that the claim from the early 2000s that India would rapidly close the gap has turned out to be false.
Does this mean you’re wrong? Not necessarily. Perhaps all your magical calculations have given you the gift of clairvoyance and events will unfold precisely the way you would like them to unfold. If that happens I will rejoice and publicly congratulate you.
My claim is much more humble: In 2026 there is no meaningful China-India race. Those who see Xi Jinping’s reception in Washington as proof of India’s arrival on the world stage are, to put it mildly, not quite connected to reality.
#WATCH | Delhi: On video showing Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma slapping a local youth during a road inspection row in Tilak Nagar, Saheb (the victim) says, "I handle all social media activities for the MLA. We came here after the PWD department called us to inspect the condition of this road. I showed him how the road surface was breaking apart. When this was pointed out, the Minister couldn't handle it; he raised his hand against me, and his associates threatened to kill me... The police were present right there, and all of this happened in their presence. He must apologize, and whatever disciplinary action is required—such as suspension—should be taken... We aren't just making claims; there is video evidence of everything. Action must be taken. We have lodged an FIR and will pursue further action."

Earlier it used to be "Videshi Taqaton ka haath"
OK.
Then what is the state doing?
Frustration is palpable, explaining in one paragraph, abusing in the next, threatening in the one after, and begging in the last. Don’t waste too much time on inconsequential groups. Focus on the Deep State and the CIA.
Nobody serious is claiming that a few influencers “created” Modi. That is a straw man.
Modi, Shah, RSS and millions of BJP workers built the political machinery that brought BJP to power. Credit where it is due.
But residing outside India and then lecturing Indians who live with the consequences of those policies about who has the right to question the government is a different kind of delusion.
A voter, taxpayer, citizen or commentator does not need to have campaigned in Bengal, risked their life or worked for a party to hold a government accountable.
Electoral credit is not a lifetime ownership certificate.
And if your argument is that people who didn't build the house have no right to question its cracks, perhaps the problem isn't their tweeting prowess.
At least he has a Paw Paw. Your boyfriend Saurav doesn’t even know his own Paw Paw’s name. Your other boyfriend is a college dropout. And your financial Maw Maw is literally a Pakistani.
What is wrong with the Modi government and how easy it is to fix:-
1. Did well on infrastructure, roads, railways, and airports but ruined urban civic amenities.
2. Improved tax system but burdened taxpayers with heavy taxes.
3. Gave a free hand to the armed forces on Pakistan and equipment imports but harmed them with Agnivir and political interference at higher levels.
4. Improved fiscal health but wasted resources on excessive freebies.
5. Stopped appeasing Muslims and took action against homegrown terror but worsened caste divisions.
6. Did well in foreign affairs but faltered when facing US pressure.
7. Uncontrolled corruption in bureaucracy and judiciary. Online measures completely failed to stop corruption.
8. Not a single BJP-ruled state can be called better governed than opposition-ruled states.
There is much more to write. The more I write, the more BJP resembles a poorer version of Congress.
In 1986 a young forest officer did something nobody else ever managed.
He arrested Veerappan.
Veerappan escaped. 5 years later he sent the officer a message. He said he was ready to surrender, but only to him, and only if he came alone and unarmed.
He went.
His name was Pandillapalli Srinivas.
He was an officer of the Indian Forest Service in Karnataka, posted in the forests on the border with Tamil Nadu. Those forests belonged, in practice, to one man.
Veerappan was wanted for killing about 200 elephants for their ivory and smuggling around 10,000 tonnes of sandalwood. He had killed forest officers and policemen. The villages around the forest protected him, some out of fear and some because nobody from the government had ever done anything for them.
Srinivas decided that was the real problem.
So instead of only hunting Veerappan, he went into the villages. He built roads. He brought drinking water to tribal settlements. He started a mobile dispensary. He built more than 40 houses for homeless families, paying for them out of his own salary. He talked more than 100 of Veerappan's men into giving up and coming back to ordinary life.
He built a temple in Gopinatham, Veerappan's own village.
He was the first officer those villagers had ever trusted.
On 9th November 1991 a wireless message reached him. Veerappan wanted to surrender. The condition was that Srinivas must come personally, without guards, without a weapon, with a few villagers Veerappan had named.
Other officers warned him not to go. Veerappan's own brother had come to him, told him Veerappan had given up his gun, and convinced him it was real.
Srinivas believed people could change. He had watched more than 100 of them do it.
The next morning, 10th November 1991, he walked into the forest near Gopinatham.
He was shot. Then his head was cut off. It was never found.
He was 37.
In January 1992 India gave him the Kirti Chakra, the second highest award for bravery in peacetime. His mother went to receive it.
Veerappan was finally killed by the police in 2004, 13 years later.
The villagers of Gopinatham still pray every day at the temple Srinivas built for them. The forest department restored the jeep he used to drive, and keeps it in a museum at Kollegal.
He tried to end Veerappan's power by giving the people around him a reason to trust someone else.
Veerappan understood that was more dangerous to him than any gun.
Having visited at least 2 top IIMs to deliver lectures and interacted with the management and students, I believe we must next anticipate an IIT Bombay like situation in IIMs. The Ambedkarite-Periyarite activism in these institutions has reached alarming levels. Wait and watch.
He talks as if the government is merely a silent witness or a bystander, with no skin in the game and no capacity to intervene and set things right. Whom, then, is he praying to? God? The judiciary? Or is he simply leaving it to the better sense of people whose senses are constantly manipulated by power-hungry politicians?
I was right to presume that whenever someone becomes an extension of a political party, their IQ seems to crash by 56%. These guys have invested too much in a party and have probably built their careers around it. So, for them, any challenge to the party becomes an existential threat.
But is it for you?
Nikhil Kamath has invited the likes of Faye D'Souza on his show. If you get your news from her you are worse than Boomers addicted to Whatsapp university. A forwarded WhatsApp message is not inherently less credible than an Instagram reel. Format does not determine truth. Evidence does. If your entire worldview comes pre-packaged by influencers, you are still outsourcing your judgment. Before mocking somebody else’s information bubble, examine your own. Propaganda remains propaganda, even on shiny Insta pages. Even worse because all Faye does is post news she sees on X/Twatter or elsewhere on social media as a text post on insta. Does not even have the energy or aptitude to make a reel. Boomers may be the whatsapp university generation but Zoomers are the Insta university generation.
Because of the fear of SC ST Act, UC people will start not interacting with Dalits, not indulge eat drink with them, corporates would be reluctant to employ them and then we’d yet again be labelled as casteist, oppressors and charged with discrimination. What a vicious circle. There is no place for us
