Meine volle Solidarität gilt @SarahMSander. Als jüdische Journalistin berichtet sie regelmäßig über Judenhass und terroristische Strukturen. Gestern wurde sie von einem linken pro-palästinensischen Mob verfolgt und beleidigt. Ohne Polizeischutz hätte sie offenbar nicht sicher nach Hause gehen können.

Habt ihr es wirklich nicht verstanden?

Jüdische Intellektuelle raten Juden inzwischen, Berlin zu verlassen. Nicht aus Panik. Aus Erfahrung. Die Angst ist seit drei Jahren ein ständiger Begleiter, und die Enttäuschung ist in fast jedem jüdischen Gesicht zu lesen. Jüdische Studenten meiden den Campus, weil sie dort eingeschüchtert werden. Jüdische Eltern nehmen ihre Kinder von staatlichen Schulen. Die Zahl antisemitischer Straftaten schießt in die Höhe. „Zionist“ ist zum Schimpfwort geworden, das Existenzrecht Israels wird täglich bestritten. Fast jede Woche werden Juden angegriffen, Synagogen attackiert. Und die Hamas, eine Terrororganisation, wird als „Widerstand“ verklärt.

Das ist keine Momentaufnahme. Das ist eine Entwicklung. Und Entwicklungen haben Urheber.

Wer hat in den vergangenen drei Jahren Seite an Seite mit Islamisten demonstriert? Wer hat das Sagbare so lange verschoben, bis das Unsagbare Alltag wurde? Wer hat geschwiegen, relativiert, applaudiert?

Diese Fragen müssten wir stellen. Stattdessen begnügen wir uns mit Antworten auf Kindergartenniveau. „Ich war es nicht.“ Oder, noch bequemer: „Das ist doch nur legitime Kritik an Israel.“

Wenn es nur Kritik an Israel ist, warum werden dann Juden in Berlin angegriffen? Warum brennen Synagogen und nicht Botschaften? Warum sympathisiert man mit einer Terrororganisation, die Frauen vergewaltigt und Kinder entführt hat? Kritik an einer Regierung braucht keine Hamas-Flagge. Wer sie trotzdem schwenkt, kritisiert nicht. Er bekennt sich.

Antisemitismus war in diesem Land immer das Problem der anderen. Der Rechten, sagten die Linken. Der Migranten, sagten die Rechten. In einem Land, in dem alle aus der Geschichte gelernt haben wollen, findet niemand den Antisemitismus bei sich selbst. Immer nur beim Nachbarn. Das ist keine Aufarbeitung. Das ist Verantwortungsverschiebung mit gutem Gewissen.

Die nächsten Tage und Wochen in berlin werden zeigen, ob „Nie wieder“ noch etwas wert ist. Oder ob wir auch diese Illusion begraben, so wie so viele andere in den letzten Jahren.

Wer sich den Debatten nicht stellt, wählt das Alibi. Davon gibt es in Deutschland gerade unfassbar viele.

Und jedes einzelne ist ein Grund mehr für Juden, ihre Koffer zu packen.

Europe’s cultural class no longer argues with Jews. It screens them and then bans them.

The latest is Ariana Harwicz, an Argentine Jewish novelist. She got boycotted by a Spanish literary festival. Only days before she was due to speak, CULTUR-ALH dropped her. Campus activists and a reading club objected to her failure to join in on the boycott Israel chorus. Organizers said her presence would be “dangerous.” She offered to come anyway. The organizers insisted it wasn’t because she’s Jewish—that’s how you know it was.

Now 350 writers and Spain’s Jewish community are demanding a public redress for her. At least that is good, some pushback against this cancellation culture.

And it is not one festival but all over.
May: two Israeli women ejected from a Spanish event after being grilled about Zionism. One was wearing a Star of David.
Last month in Galicia: a klezmer band had stones thrown at them for having played in Israel.
Belgium: a festival canceled a concert because the conductor leads the Israel Philharmonic.
Amsterdam: a concert hall tried to bar an Israeli cantor from a Chanukah concert because he served in the IDF reserves. They reversed only after an uproar.

1930s boycotts come to mind. We must push back against this every time it happens.

Jewish lives matter too ✡️

It is a strange and tragic request to have to make, yet entirely necessary in our current reality - may the new year bring a definitive end to the violence and terror against Jews around the world.

The Jewish New Year is a time traditionally dedicated to renewal, and hope for peace. Yet this year, it is impossible to ignore a grim reality, the normalization of violent attacks against Jews across the Western world. What was once unthinkable has become a regular occurrence over the past year, every Jewish holiday has been weaponized into a potential target for terror:

* Jews were murdered in Manchester during Yom Kippur prayers, while the politician who is now the current UK Prime Minister, eager to sanction Israel, was serving as the city's mayor.

* 15 people were murdered in Australia while lighting Hanukkah candles in Sydney.

* In Canada, where Jews make up just one percent of the population, a staggering 70% of all targeted hate crimes are directed against the Jewish community.

Violence is inherently abhorrent, and perpetrators of hate crimes must face the full force of the law. But it is past time for a reckoning among those who rush to self-righteously sanction Israel over the actions of a radical minority, while completely ignoring the rampant, unchecked antisemitism festering in their own backyards.

As we enter this new year, accountability, and moral clarity must replace indifference and double standards.

Jewish lives matter too.

The world spent years funding, enabling and propping up a terror regime in Gaza—one that embedded itself among civilians and exploited them as human shields.

Much of the media then amplified Hamas’s propaganda, strengthening the very narrative Hamas relies on to maintain power and sacrifice its own civilians for political gain.

And now that same media has the audacity to blame Kushner for not fixing the catastrophe quickly enough—while continuing to fuel the propaganda that makes peace harder to achieve.

If I were Kushner, I would have told this reporter exactly where he could take that question. Kudos to Kushner for calmly dismantling it with far more diplomacy than it deserved.
