The union for the staff of local NPR station KNKX in Seattle/Tacoma. Workers providing jazz, blues, and award-winning local journalism to Western Washington.
Back at the bargaining table with my KUOW colleagues today! Fun fact: the cost of living in Seattle has gone up almost 20% since our last contract was signed. Minimum salaries for positions in our newsroom have gone up ... 0%.
We @KNKXunion stand by our friends @seattletimes They deserve a fair contract ! We hope management will step up to meet the needs of their talented staff. ✊✊✊
1/ At the @SeattleTimesCo, it’s #timeforchange. Our bargaining committee meets with management today to begin negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement. And it’s past time for fair pay and better conditions.
Here’s what we’re fighting for:
looks like our friends @wemakekuow are back on the picket line tomorrow, demanding higher wages. we stand with them. it’s a shame @kuow management can’t seem to recognize how hard it is out there for folks, with food and gas prices still so high & no guaranteed relief in sight.
.@KUOW journalists, hosts, producers and announcers spent our lunch break picketing outside the station, because management and @UW are still refusing to pay us a living wage for our work. Seattle needs local news, but those of us making that news need fair pay! #WeMakeKUOW
Today's the day! We picket to tell @UW/@KUOW mgmt to do the right thing and pay a living wage!
12:30pm-1:30pm outside the KUOW studios at 4518 Univ. Way NE in Seattle's U District ✊✊✊
#WeMakeKUOW
We have postponed today's #WeMakeKUOW picket for fair pay due to the unhealthy smoke that has engulfed the Seattle area.
BLEAH!!
We will instead shout our need for livable wages at the top of our lungs by picketing IN CLEAN AIR on Monday, Oct. 24.
YEAH!!
Stay tuned!
Update: @KNKXunion has voted unanimously to ratify the contract. 🥳 Thank you for your support ! Also, we are currently $6K away from reaching our Fall fund drive goal. If you’re in a position to give, we would appreciate any amount !! 🙏🏻 https://t.co/fOoeOy0bkX
Hi! Wanted to let you all know that we’ve reached a tentative agreement with management! 🥳🎉 Thank u! Also! Today marks first day of our fall drive & if you’re in a position to contribute, in whatever amount, @knkxfm could use your continued support ! 🙏🏻 https://t.co/fOoeOy0bkX

What are you doing @knkxfm? Bargain in good faith with @KNKXunion! With the cost of living crisis and the erosion of democracy, it's getting tougher to be a journalist who tries to hold the powerful accountable. The very least you can do is negotiate decent wages and benefits.
As a listener, I support you today and always @KNKXunion. As a journalist and (new!) co-chair @WaNewsGuild I stand with you. Your work is essential to the region. Our communities are stronger when we all are.
Hey @knkxfm management. You folks are awesome. Your story overcoming impossible odds to even exist is awesome.
You know what’s even more awesome? Your staff. They deserve a better contract. They deserve raises.
Hello everyone, Here w/ an update: We thought we were close to a VERY MODEST agreement w/ management. That deal is starting to fall apart. And we're really disappointed. We’re going into bargaining again this week & hope management will come around. Our staff deserves better!
