Indian Predator: The Diary of a Serial Killer, and the story of Raja Kolander

The case came to light after journalist Dhirendra Singh disappeared in December 2000. Kolander was later convicted in Singh’s murder, and in 2025, a Lucknow court also convicted him and an accomplice in a separate 2000 double-murder case, sentencing both to life imprisonment. Claims of cannibalism became a major part of the story, but those allegations were not proven in court.

What made the documentary even more unsettling for me was hearing the story directly from people involved in the investigation and chillingly from Kolander himself.

Yesterday, I joined an X Space and heard the brother of R. Ashwini Mrudula speak about his sister.

I was shaken.

Ashwini was only 16 years old when she was brutally murdered in Dondaparti, Visakhapatnam, on March 29, 2011.

She was found in a pool of blood, her throat slit.

Four people were arrested. But in 2018, all four were acquitted by the Mahila Court, citing lack of concrete evidence.

15 years later, one question remains WHAT HAPPENED TO ASHWINI?

Yesterday, I didn’t just hear a case.

I heard a brother who has spent years carrying the pain of losing his sister while still searching for answers.

A family can survive loss. But how do they live with the feeling that the truth was never established?

If there was an appeal, what happened to it?
If there wasn’t, why?Was the investigation ever examined?Was every piece of evidence properly pursued?

This isn’t about politics. This isn’t about blaming someone without evidence.This is about a 16-year-old girl whose life ended far too soon and a family still waiting for answers.
