#Kelmscott2024 is undeway! 🥳🙌 We are starting in the railway carriage field. Our questions are: Was there once a building in this field? If so, does it relate to the earlier medieval village, which written records suggest we would be on the fringe of a more planned village, mainly consisting of agricultural fields or is it part of the post-medieval village expansion? The second seeks to understand if the road has moved. A map from 1740 shows that the road once ran straight instead of bending as it does today. We've already uncovered some rubble; the question now is, could this be the remains of the older road? @SocAntiquaries @KelmscottManor #communitydig #communityarchaeology

The #TestPit at Parliament Row, as part of the #BigDig at #Malmesbury, has uncovered a path! We believe this may be the old footpath from when the cottages were first built in 1837. Since then, with many keen gardeners, the ground level has risen, burying the path under about 30cm of soil #Athelstan1100 @MuseumAthelstan @MalmesburyCivic #CommunityDig
