#BackToTheSourceOfTheNile has already made a significant impact on Uganda’s tourism investment potential.
The premiere in China drew a large audience, inspiring many to develop interest in visiting the Nile.
It didn’t need to wait for a home premiere to demonstrate its influence.
The results were remarkable: over 300 diplomats from 44 countries attended, the film recorded 73 million views in a single night across Chinese platforms, and within weeks.
Additionally more than 2,000 visas were issued as viewers turned their interest into actual visits to the Source of the Nile.

Chimpanzees are highly social animals that often enjoy companionship and live in close-knit groups.
Similarly, because of their strong social bonds and interactions, the Uganda Tourism Board encourages everyone to explore these fascinating primates in Kibale National Park.
Western Uganda doesn’t need more events; we just need to align better.
Kasese has already taken its position with the Rwenzori Marathon. That’s clear adventure and endurance in the mountains.
Fort Portal is also consistently active, especially with motorsport on the calendar, plus its strong nature and wellness appeal.
Mbarara, on the other hand, has a powerful lifestyle identity: food, cattle culture, and agro experiences, even if rally isn’t always on the calendar.
If you look at how people actually move, the journey is usually:
Mbarara → Kasese → Fort Portal (or the reverse).
So instead of competing, we should build around that flow.
Start in Mbarara for food, culture, and lifestyle.
Move to Kasese for adventure and the marathon.
Finish in Fort Portal to relax, explore nature, and catch events like rally.
Same region, different strengths, one connected experience.
That’s how we grow, not by copying each other, but by playing our roles and supporting the full journey.
Don’t replicate. Align. Collaborate.

Strategic Meetings & Planning
This afternoon, we linked up with @wekesa_amos for a discussion around the marathon’s achievements and upcoming programs.
Key areas of focus included transportation planning, additional accommodation arrangements, and the upcoming South African activations.
The meeting brought together @taffies_safaris, Rogers, @Muyodi_Shakie, and myself.
The future looks promising, with early reports indicating that around 500 participants have already registered for the Rwenzori Marathon scheduled for 22nd August in Kasese.

RWENZORI MARATHON 2026
Today, I caught up with some of the top management team at @Ugandawildlife including JAMES MUSINGUZI who is the executive director.
We discussed about @RwenzoriMarathn and how it’s impacting tourism in Uganda. Because we are constantly pushing the Rwenzoris, numbers have moved up from 1k in 2022 to 11k just over 4yrs later.
We have agreed on some potential collaborations to grow business even further by them teaming up with us as we got to exhibit around the world.
RWENZORI MARATHON 2026
Hon. @mugarra minister of state for tourism has confirmed attendance on 24th February 2026.
The launch is going to be great and we can’t wait announcing the great news !
Reasons why Rwenzori had 25 activations in 8 countries
The @RwenzoriMarathn conducted 25 strategic activations across 8 countries worldwide in 2025 alone,
demonstrating an exceptional commitment to global destination marketing.
This level of outreach reflects a bold and intentional effort to position Uganda as a premier tourism and sports destination. The past year was marked by extensive international travel focused on promoting both the marathon and the country’s unique tourism experiences.
Momentum continues to build, with even more marketing activations and global engagements planned for this year to further strengthen visibility and participation.
After 24th Feb Global Announcements we shall take over as usual
