Pleased to share my @ModernLRev (open access) article offering a unique conceptual perspective on the use of GPS electronic monitoring for protective rather than punitive purposes, asking whether the technology can be viewed as a bodyguard rather than a prison guard?
📹 Our Board Members @HackedOffHugh and @MsEmma_Jones tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time: unchecked power in the hands of the press and its profound impact on democracy. They shed light on two powerful pathways toward genuine press accountability. This was at the brilliant @YellowPressco Evening with Hugh Grant filmed by @YellowLensCo.
1️⃣ Strengthened Regulation: Hugh emphasises the need for a truly independent press regulator—an authority as essential as those that oversee any other powerful industry in the UK. “The newspapers have shown, time and again, that self-regulation simply doesn’t work,” he explains, as he calls for a system that goes beyond “marking their own homework” and brings justice to innocent victims of press abuse.
2️⃣ Responsible Ownership: They both question the fairness of Britain’s press being dominated by wealthy foreign owners, driven more by profit and political influence than journalistic integrity. “Shouldn’t British papers be owned by British people?” Hugh asks, highlighting the concerns with global media giants holding significant sway over national narratives.
It’s time to rethink how we protect both freedom and responsibility in the media industry. Our democracy deserves it. 🇬🇧📜 #PressReform #HackedOff
Amazing to have been part of such an inspiring conference! Thank you @paulwragg78 for inviting me and to @pcoelaw @dkrolph@DavidErdos@courtney_leader (and others for their fantastic papers) @Law_Leeds
What perplexes me is why, a mere 24 hours after Archbishop @JustinWelby speaks out about the cruelty of Sunak's immigration plans, a minor driving offence (speeding at 25 mph in a 20 mph zone) from <checks notes> *October* suddenly appears on the BBC news feed? 🤷♀️
Have you watched our latest series, which asks have newspapers become Above the Law?
Watch our interview with actress Emma Morgan.
Her story is just one of many accounts of how Mazher Mahmood, relied on fraudulent techniques to produce tabloid stories

"Baroness Lawrence’s comments in court documents lay bare the lasting impacts she has suffered as a result of the conduct which she believes has taken place."
A good read. When will the Lawrence family get peace and justice? Sigh. https://t.co/p3VWSzpSqs via @hackinginquiry
As hearing begins today on claims of hacking & other intrusions against the @MailOnline 's publisher, from Prince Harry, Bns Lawrence and others, it is worth remembering how the Govt has responded to these allegations.
Today, Doreen Lawrence, Prince Harry & the other claimants are preparing to put their case forward in a court of law. This time the Mail will have to defend itself in front of a High Court judge, rather than relying on its political allies in Downing Street to get them off the hook #PrinceHarry
This is so interesting. And just shows the absurd inconsistencies. Just read final sentence in this adjudication, and ask is audience not able to do same with Gary Lineker?
What do women need to not only succeed, but thrive in #law in 2023 and beyond? Thanks to @Kate_Astall for taking part in our series for #InternationalWomensDay
