Jacob Sunley was just 20 when he died. He was started on sodium valproate for epilepsy and was seizure-free for nearly three years. He changed from sodium valproate during the time that new restrictions for prescribing it to men and boys began.
🚨 "Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust had the lowest rates of caesarean sections in the country between 2012 and 2023. Its rate of stillbirths and newborn baby deaths soared over the same period to become the worst nationally."

Maternal and neonatal deaths 'rising for the first time in a decade' - the latest Patient Safety Watch report confirms. Black mothers are still 3x more likely to die during pregnancy or shortly after than white women.
Behind this data are real women, lives and families. Just yesterday, I spoke with someone still struggling with the aftermath of losing their baby due to negligence and lack of safety. Fear shouldn't be part of any mother's journey, yet Black women consistently express the most concern about maternity safety.
This isn't just about numbers or reports. This is an obvious human rights issue.

LSBU Windrush Compensation report finds the dedicated compensation scheme “retraumatises” survivors and family | London South Bank University https://t.co/x8tya6a5vk
People harmed by the Windrush, Post Office & Children’s Home scandals are suffering further damage by schemes meant to compensate them, says a new @kcllegalclinic report.

Hear from some who took part in a roundtable which informed the report ⬇️
🧵 1/5 8 years ago, I gave birth to my first daughter. As a Black woman, I quickly realised my race had everything to do with the lack of care, attention, and inadequate treatment I received during my maternal and post-natal experience. This realisation led me to start @MotherhoodGroup .
More and more women struggling to breastfeed have taken their babies to a dentist to sever the tissue under the tongue in recent years. But little evidence supports the use of these “tongue-tie releases” for most infants, a new report found. https://t.co/PRGuS6LyAh
One of the bravest people I know. Sam lost his entire family, including his 3-month old sister, to AIDS due to the Infected Blood Scandal.
Sam still hasn't received any compensation and is awaiting the application process for interim payments, for unrecognised deaths, to open.
The number of lie detector tests used on sex offenders has almost tripled in the last three years.
Lie detector tests are completely unreliable. This junk science puts women and victims at risk.
This. But let’s continue to believe we can end men’s violence against women by asking father’s to have better “conversations” with their sons and never holding any of the industries that profit from this to account.
Both @Telegraph and @guardian publish lengthy investigative pieces on how science and statistics were misrepresented during the trial of Lucy Letby, quoting numerous very credible experts. Next week, it’s the turn of @PrivateEyeNews. Until we get the process of hearing the totality of scientific evidence right during criminal trials, there is a high risk we will get the wrong outcome.

Thanks to @DocCMartin@OpenJusticeCoP for this. It was very disturbing to witness how incurious the judge was. He asked one question about reporting time limits, noted a typo in the word foetus in the submitted papers, and authorised the possibility of significant restraint
