Good meeting with Minister Home Affairs. We discussed importance of human rights in policing, which is a core part of the UK-Zambia police training partnership. I expressed hope that opposition parties would be allowed to hold public rallies. Democracy is best path to security.
Pleased to meet Zambian Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu. Wide-ranging discussion, underscoring importance of democracy & fundamental freedoms as cornerstone of 🇬🇧🇿🇲 partnership.
Pleased to meet Leader of Opposition Hon. Mundubile & his Patriotic Front colleague Hon. Kapyanga at @Legislaturezm today. Valuable discussion on PF role to provide checks & balances, current challenges, party priorities, & opportunities for bipartisan approach to 🇿🇲 development.

Today, @NickDyerFCDO, UK’s Special Envoy for Famine Prevention & Humanitarian Affairs at @FCDOGovUK and @UNICEF visited #IDP camps in Dessie Town and Dessie hospital in #Amhara region to assess the nutritional and health status of women and children impacted by the conflict.
Lovely article on one of our brilliant #FCDO#Syria team members (who worked as hard as anyone to make sure UN cross border aid can continue)

Today marks one year since the passing of Jack Charlton, one of the true greats of the game and a truly inspiring man. Rest in peace Big Jack, you will not be forgotten.

Have to add, this was a real community effort.
➡️ From donations from individuals around the UK & Ireland
➡️ To donations from Union branches
➡️ To larger donations from local & regional businesses
➡️To help from our local Ashington Town Council
And others of course!
So it’s official!
We’ve raised the money needed and we have commissioned a sculptor.
The statue of the great Jack Charlton will soon be a reality.
Thank you to every single person/organisation who helped make this happen.
I’m over the moon.

Visited Bab al-Hawa border crossing and transshipment hub today. Saw first-hand that UN cross-border aid operations are a vital lifeline to millions of people, bringing food + medical supplies across the border from Turkey to Syria. It’s essential that this gateway remains open.
Good to be with @MarkCutts at the Turkish hub which helps the @UN despatch 1,000 aid trucks into north-west Syria for the most vulnerable every month.
UK partners @UNFPA and @WHO send vital aid through this route, including medical supplies to help in battle against COVID-19
Today would have been Jack Charlton’s 86th birthday. Player for @LUFC for 23 years, world cup winner with @England in 1966 and manager of the @FAIreland team for a decade during their most successful era ever, he touched so many lives on and off the pitch. Happy birthday Jack!
