@saravdwerf Students need lots of fun experiences exploring decomposing numbers within 10. It is the foundation for expectations of computation that follows (immediately starting in GR1).
I want students to love math, understand that they use it in their everyday lives and be confident that they can do it. I want to help them become competent, confident and curious mathematicians.
@MNmMath I missed this chat and the context - this speaks to me. As a math spec/interv, I’ve had great success partnering with teachers to help Ss at all places within dynamic MTSS. My framework is “How are WE working together to help Ss?” Yet many want to label and separate ownership.
@Dean_of_math Priority grade-level standards with meaningful formative assessments, and lots of opportunities for students to explore and develop deep understanding of the priority work.
@ms_w_english We aimed for names that were familiar sounding but not popular - Sylvie and Tessa. I was sensitive to no nicknames. Both parents had absolute veto power no explanations needed. We used postits with 10 names each to start. We did a ranking also (mathy parents, lol).
Proud to live in MA - after extending pandemic meal program, MA passes bill to fund permanently. 1st article @BostonGlobe to catch my attention over morning coffee. Thank you @GlobeAbraham for highlighting why we should all celebrate!!!
@drnickimath This can become a deluge of intervention like plugging holes in a dyke instead of seeing all the components of instruction and student support as an integrated system to raise all boats and get them up river.
@drnickimath A lot of systems view intervention as SEPARATE from classroom instruction. And also lack understanding that difficulties in GR3 start with Ss not reaching key milestones K-2.
@drnickimath As an intervention specialist I 100% agree - would love thoughts on how to persuade teachers and admin that effective MTSS starts with investing in Tier 1 and prioritizing key vertical standards. The most success I’ve had is working closely with classroom teachers.
