I am in my second and final year of the Master of Architecture program at University of Michigan. This profile was created to talk about Health by Design.
Really excited about #Stimulationthroughnature and their idea about connecting Seniors to Detroit Public School Farm-to-School Program. Looks like their might be an opportunity for a bus to take them...https://t.co/LWYZWfNePB @HByD_UMich @KaylaHawley6@tiamarie1219@behm_erica
“Health by Design is an intentional, curated process that analyzes and aims to improve the overall health and state of being of individuals of all identities, cultures, ethnicities, social status, etc.” @HByD_UMich @UpaliNanda@TaubmanCollege#HealthByDesign
“All creatures have been turned into property, the fishes in the water, the birds in the air, the plants on the earth... The creatures, too, must become free.”
—Thomas Münzer, leader of the German Peasants’ Revolt, 16th c.
Designing for accessibility should not be a choice. Designing for accessibility should not be cut out. Designing for accessibility should not be a separate topic, but rather encompassed by universal design. Design accessibly.. always. @HByD_UMich #universaldesign#learning
"We design for people, but we have nothing in our curriculum to understand people... just assumed that because we are people, we understand people. That’s not how it works." @UpaliNanda https://t.co/wAju7MVJBT

As designers, how are we to implement an entirely new environment to an existing infrastructure at an affordable cost? @behm_erica suggested utilizing current spaces with low activity to produce beneficial stimulating environments.

@ChunliChen4 I find this very interesting/intriguing! I’ve never felt this lack in America, but when I lived in Italy I was shocked by the lack of public restrooms. I found that in order to use a restroom, you had to first purchase something. I’m curious to learn more about this in the U.S.
How can an architectural environment create positive, stress-free spaces that promote sensory stimulation in aging adults? Here is a peek at our analysis.

#healthBYdesign means taking into account how spaces can improve lives of others. Specifically looking at senior living homes, sensory stimulation is needed. This article (https://t.co/mgfgSrvRj1) explains how stimulation can help - but how can we use more nature to stimulate?
In our @HByD_UMich Class last week, @behm_erica, @tiamarie1219, and I pitched our project focusing on the impact of nature integration on sensory stimulation in low-income, aging adult populations. These notes are from the classes reactions after. @UpaliNanda#brainhealth#aging
#HealthByDesign means building/supporting interdependent communities in which both the diverse individual & broader ecosystem can thrive . . . it means taking action through an evaluative + empathetic process that seeks insight across disciplines and from experts/ users alike.
