Really excited about #Stimulationthroughnature and their idea about connecting Seniors to Detroit Public School Farm-to-School Program. Looks like their might be an opportunity for a bus to take them...https://t.co/LWYZWfNePB @HByD_UMich @KaylaHawley6@tiamarie1219@behm_erica
Thanks #traumaticwayfinding for presenting a complex topic in a very effective and efficient way. Excited about the simple concept of utilizing the corridors as the point of change @HByD_UMich @iroutte@BakkerElyssa @ChunliChen4 @aidan_barron17 https://t.co/nYqoD3XGKz
"Game of getting older" #powerofplay and its implementation of games and competition started me thinking about the "Cardinals Reminiscence League." Check this out to see just how impactful sport can be on aging adults: https://t.co/Pzuq78Gcql @HByD_UMich
PVM Connect? Great Idea. Excited to see how healthy competition could stimulate social interaction and connectedness. #PowerofPlay @HByD_UMich Blown away with the execution and ideas from @zje_2023 @Maya_Fraser_@sophiejacks00
Interesting design strategy that reminds me of what they are trying to CHANGE about hospitals! Should close community really be a "trade-off" for natural light? @HByD_UMich

Here is an strength-based, asset mapping plan that might be useful to use as you all think through your amazing project! https://t.co/xpe8o20A0F @egbeird
Biggest barrier to exercising? Our peers @UMich say class schedule. @sophiejacks00 & I sought to eliminate this w/ a 2part design. 1.) a foundational mini course to establish health habits 2.) weekly intermission periods w/ no class to allow students more time for movement.
So why did many pedestrian malls across the United States fail decades ago?
Urban and regional planning professor Stephan Schmidt details four key factors:
- Youth matters
- Foot traffic is important
- Sprawl kills
- Bigger isn't necessarily better

@ChunliChen4 @UpaliNanda@HealthbyDesigns@sophiejacks00 @ChunliChen4 I think you bring up a great point w/ PE and focus on sport! W/ this design, we have to be aware of how much hurt sport and PE have caused some individuals. My 4th grade classmates and I only cared about being the best dodgeball player not the benefits of movement.
Great being able to draw parallels from my SW course w/ @BradZebrack to my course in #healthbydesign w/ @UpaliNanda a few weeks ago. Social workers, architects, and more need to think "upstream" when it comes to addressing public health. https://t.co/LD0fIjgBr2
Step 2: Introduce twice weekly intermission periods in which no classes can be scheduled (the times for which would vary based on school). The design aims to break the barrier of class schedule that often prevents students from engaging in physical activity (3/3) #healthbydesign
Step 1: Introduce a mandatory 1-2 credit mini course for first year students. The class would provide information on the principles of health, and act as a foundation for students to develop their own healthy lifestyle in future years of college and life (2/3) #healthbydesign
In order to encourage increased student mobility at the University of Michigan, me and @egbeird proposed a two part design intervention based on helping students learn the principles of health, in hopes of helping them establish healthy life habits (1/3) #healthbydesign
Top takeaways:
1.Start small, but start.
2.Prototype all the time.
3.Anyone can learn to design, and we need everyone (health, architecture, community).
4.We have to demand more from our environments.
@tiamarie1219 ended her 2page reflection of #healthbydesign with a powerful call for society to engage in interdisciplinary work in order to start "building a culture of wellness." What goes into building a culture and what mindsets or frameworks need to change to get there?
