Thinking about all the black, brown, & low-income students who arrive at college & who are made to feel as if they don't deserve to be there, while so many wealthy students have their parents essentially buy their way into these schools & rarely experience the same skepticism.
This government shutdown is really crazy. I truly don’t understand HOW or why this is okay. The amount of people affected is insane and the fact that it’s all due to the wants & desires of a few selfish people is what’s even wilder. Hope it ends soon b/c people have bills to pay.
Hey everyone, I'm excited to announce that I will be staying at Brown University as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Education starting July 1, 2019!
Something I just love about public libraries is how they bring together such a wide cross section of people. You look around & see grandparents sitting on the floor w/their grandchildren, scholars digging into the archives, college kids who have a paper due in 2 hrs. I love it.
Also, Kayla is vegan and had us all rethinking our dinner choices as we got into a discussion about the larger impact of personal choices on the climate. Good work from Allyson, Kayla and all of our summer interns!
Kayla talks about finding cleaner energy sources and the way forward to fight #climatechange: mitigation (advanced nuclear technology or geoengineering) and adaptation to reduce vulnerability @EMERGEfellows
We also heard today from @EmergeFellow Kayla Houston for a fascinating look at climate change. Kayla is studying computer science and economics at @BrownUniversity#STEM
I can't believe we have to say this in the year 2018: Poverty is not a crime.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans, convicted of nothing, should not be in jail because they can't afford their bail.
This week, I’m traveling to Africa for the first time since I left office – a continent of wonderful diversity, thriving culture, and remarkable stories. As I prepare for this trip, I wanted to share a list of books that I’d recommend for summer reading: https://t.co/W4Jc0N23iy
i don’t understand trying to teach writing, in any genre, without assigning quite a lot of reading & encouraging students to maintain their own steady diet of reading. writing, without much reading, is like eating only what you can make & what you can make is toast.
