@litwithlayton This story emphasized the idea of total equality and how enforcement is the only viable way to achieve those means. The consequences is that it suppresses freedoms or “unequal” aspects of life that are needed for society to grow (1/2)

@litwithlayton I agree that this story is a more dramatic take on communism in exaggerating the idea of total equality in ALL aspects of life (literally all, even intelligence) and the level of suppression that would be enforced to remove any possible means inequality and competition. #laylit20

@litwithlayton The balance between work and social life is on a fine line. One must be able to give equal importance to both aspects as a “tip of the scales” can have dire consequences if not changed in the long run. #laylit20

@W0lfJack like giving more time toward her relationship with Jack instead of work and not cause the extramarital affair and also the opportunity to raise a child of her own. Adam allowed her to vent all the emotional turmoil. Adam was someone she expressed her true self to (2/2) #laylit20

@W0lfJack I also think Adam was meant to be a distraction for Fiona. But in the end, he did turn out to be something more. I think Fiona saw him as a way to express all the regret she had carried all her life from all the things she has missed out on doing (1/2)

@litwithlayton Even though, of course, the teddy bear wasn’t alive, my brother’s belief that it was real at that time glows him cope with the idea of sleeping by himself for the first time and become independent. Thus, something like tooth fairy is needed to help ppl adjust (2/2). #laylit20

@litwithlayton I think believing in something, even if it may not be real (i.e. tooth fairy), is a way for humans to fill a void and cope with certain things. In his early yrs, my younger brother had a teddy bear he used to sleep and play w/ to make it easier for him to sleep in the dark (1/2)

@eva_mia_scence @litwithlayton I agree. That’s why she was willing to be so close to Adam. She could empathize with his feelings. Also, his child like behavior makes kind of fills that void of caring for a child that Fiona has wanted all her life. She sees Adam as the son “she never had”. #laylit20

@simroth38 @litwithlayton I saw that contrast too. To think that a court judge or her caliber/experience would resort to emotions in her decisions or actions instead of logic/reason. I guess human nature can only sustain objectivity for so long before raw/primal emotions control one’s judgement. #laylit20

Fiona’s emotional confinement due to Jack’s affair and their strenuous relationship and Adam’s confinement to the rules of his religious sect put a toll on their wants/needs. So their relationship was a way of letting out all their pain and frustration #laylit20

Having not experienced proper social interaction with other ppl outside of his sect, it can be somewhat expected that the terminology Adam may use to talk to Fiona can seem off. But, the intention was simpler in reality. He just wanted to say thank you. #laylit20

@EschbachJackie Not sure if it‘s dissing religion, but it shows the balance objective institutions like the courts must have in morally involved cases like Adam’s. Each verdict must account for the logical & moral implications with the end goal of doing what is best for the individual #laylit20

@W0lfJack I found that interesting too. Considering how Adam is being adamant of following his religious ideals and refusing something that could potentially save his life, one would expect a much more passionate response toward something so personal to him. #laylit20

@domedarsh1000 @Gvitboro @yashage_lit I agree. While some patients may have the chance to be cured/saved, it really comes down to the individual’s decision. In this situation, medical and law professionals really only can give guidance and necessary info for the individual to make a well-informed decision #laylit20

@mchenchard @litwithlayton I agree. While judge’s must handle all cases they specialize in no matter the severity & intricacy, one has to realize its effects on the human psyche. Each case exhibits the flaws in humanity, which only encourages more skepticism on if there really is good in people. #laylit20

@emanneotation I agree. She reflects on her time in the hospital on pg 98/99 where she realized how the nurses in the ward helped her during a time of pain and suffering in her life and the lives of her friends & family. For Adam, she understood his pain and wanted to return that kindness (1/2)

@litwithlayton Religion is a group of core beliefs that encourage the good in humanity and make us better as a people. So, why it is defined as a cult by the denotation, it is the connotation that matters here in separating good from evil (2/2). #laylit20

@litwithlayton By definition, a cult is essentially a group of people following a few core beliefs be it toward 1 god or multiple gods. So technically yes, religions are a “cult”. But cult is used for sects that seek not to better people with their beliefs, but to inspire the evil in many (1/2)
