Great Western Railways services will transfer into public ownership from 13 December 2026.
This is another significant moment as this Labour government continues to bring our railway back into public ownership and put passengers first, not shareholders.
@jamesAjourno Not quite, James. We won two out of the three seats in 2022 when all three were contested due to the boundary changes. and I won again in 2024. There were no elections here last year. Cllr Singh won in 2023.

The Hexagon theatre has been awarded £2.06 million by Arts Council England to carry out essential upgrades to ensure it is fit for the future.
The funding will enable the complete replacement of the ageing retractable seating system on the ground floor of the auditorium with more comfortable seating and improved accessibility for elderly customers and those with restricted mobility.
Work will also include the replacement of internal and external fire doors and improvements to drainage.
The project will protect The Hexagon’s operational viability as well as continue to meet the diverse needs of its audiences and maintain its position as a vital cultural centre for the region.
A programme of work will dovetail with the project currently taking place to upgrade and decarbonise The Hexagon’s heating system and the construction of the new Studio Theatre.

The latest phase of the South Reading Bus Rapid Transit scheme has given buses an even clearer run along the A33 to serve residents in Kennet Island, workers in Green Park and visitors at Mereoak Park & Ride.
New stops were also added to make it easier for shoppers to get to Reading Link Retail Park and other nearby businesses which were previously difficult to reach by public transport.
A new bridge was also installed over the River Kennet to improve the route for cyclists and pedestrians while maintaining the same amount of road space for general traffic.
The scheme was part of Reading’s £26m Bus Service Improvement Plan, which was funded by the government, and supports the Council’s aims of encouraging the use of public transport, cycling and walking to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.

Clean Air Night is taking place next Thursday and this year the focus is on the harmful effects of wood burning in your home.
Burning wood and coal releases tiny particles into the air which, when breathed in, can affect every organ in the body, increasing the risk of serious illnesses such as lung cancer and heart disease. Children are especially vulnerable.
The whole of Reading borough is a Smoke Control Area (SCA) which restricts the use of solid fuel, such as wood, and the appliances that can be used to burn it, to minimise the emission of harmful particulates (https://t.co/oRSQ9BsBIx)
The borough-wide SCA is part of the Council’s drive to improve air quality in the borough and create a healthier environment for residents.
