@benjamindfalcon There is a tension here, which I feel as both a priest and a veteran. In practice, if it is not a Sunday, Anzac Day will always win. On a Sunday? Often in practice worship is displaced so that it does not conflict with the Anzac service. Much discussion needed the theology here!
@AustAnglican@StJohnsBrisbane St Mark's Day became rather overshadowed by Anzac Day from 1916 onwards. But 110 years later, +JONQ is still remembered as the greatest of the Bishops of North Queensland.
@AustAnglican @realjoshshowes A very vibrant Aboriginal community, with its spirituality firmly centred around St Albans. The home of the late Bishop Arthur Malcolm.
@AustAnglican Yes, so I understand. Is there a positive correlation between youth and Pentecostal faith? Or does the census data not help such a finding?
@AustAnglican So without an active Anglican presence in the growing northern suburbs of Townsville I am saddened but not surprised. We have a church plant happening in the suburb to the north-west, however.
@AustAnglican Burdell is an area without a nearby Anglican Church - in Townsville, most people regards 15 minutes as a "long commute". My PA lives out that way, and takes about 20 minutes to come into the office, which is regarded as extraordinary in Townsville. /2
@AustAnglican The practical jokes mainly come from God - the people here know that my sense of humour is quirky enough to ensure that any jokes go both ways!๐
@_stuckings @dontattempt Except that us Novocastrians felt pretty remote and unconnected to Sydney. We knew where the money went, and it seemed to rarely cross the Hawkesbury River. So NSW might stand more for NotNewcastle, but Sydney and woe to Wollongong
@charliebelllive@Southwarkcathed In my diocese the clergy are encouraged to robe - but a good number of laity also attend. I then use the sermon to indicate why the people in white up the front have been set aside - but they are nothing without the laity whom clergy are set aside to serve. No laos, no church.
@AustAnglican@GlosCathedral Bishop Frodsham left here aged 50, having been consecrated and installed around the age of 39. I arrived here somewhat older than 50; there is a trend of bishops being older.
@AustAnglican @ABFreier The four years have gone past so quickly! Thanks to Philip and Joy Freier for the photos - and to the people of North Queensland for being such wonderful friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.
@AustAnglican I note the comment that North Queensland was too big for one bishop! And his regrets at the party politics in the national church. Some things do not change.
