Building this type of team culture is hard work, and continual work. This is a good list to use to check in with yourself. We all slip up and need reminders from time to time!

@rdunnell @thederbyapex This! Speedy often warns us about the downfall of speed skating. The centralization of talent made the sport less accessible and attracted fewer new skaters. Teams merging isn't necessarily a good thing and I suspect allowing teams larger charters would have a similar effect.

@thederbyapex Maybe I'm completely misunderstanding, but it would exactly make people further away from play time. Right now, unrostered skaters can play B games (exactly the point of combining teams). But if we increase the charter, we would have skaters in no game purgatory.

@Pavey_wavey We also chat "snack time bed time" or "snack time nap time" at the end of practices... because we really like snacks and sleep. I mean... who doesn't?

@Pavey_wavey Detroit's chant is "Rise Up". It comes from the mantra of the City: “We hope for better things; it will rise from the ashes”. Lots of parallels between our City and our Team. Lots of Rising Up still to do!

@LightningSlim1 We have an organized unit of our training program for Allstars focused on mental training/wellness where we share books, links to podcasts, articles, etc... Nothing super formal, but the importance is identified by captns/trainers and we all share resources.

#derbytwitter I'm currently on Mota TKO purple wheels (95A). They are a bit too sticky. I skate on skate court. Like all 8 wheels the same, no mix 'n match. I'm not attached to any brand... (unless you want me to be, because I could be bought). Recommendations welcome! GO!

@thederbyapex Any recommendations on how to reconcile stats for blockers who DON'T get penalties, but are always on the track playing short? Seems like those who have to constantly kill penalties for their teammates take hits in their stats.

@OKVDCoachGrant 100% got my job as a University instructor because of Derby. They loved it, said the students would love it, and it showed that I am a person who attacks what I want in life. A lesson that they wanted students to see. Derby has made me better and apparently more memorable!
