No shade to Maintenance Phase, but ppl (esp thin, white ones) need to stop making it their only source of information re: fat acceptance. Tired of ppl saying they're having their minds blown when Black, fat ppl have been saying these things (and more brilliantly) for years.
That time @YoungLife canceled a whole camp 50th reunion because I wanted to attend ๐
(All jokes aside this has made me feel lots of things, predominantly sadness.)
Former Young Life participants say that in spite of its message of friendship and belonging, the organization continues to reject its queer members when they come out.

Eating only when youโre hungry and for physiological needs is the same concept as having sex only for procreation.
You deserve to experience pleasure and joy.
@kbdidit1@blackqueeriroh@MaintenancePod@kbdidit1 The only MP episode I listened to was โIs Being Fat Bad For Youโ (I had to for work) and MH repeatedly said anti-fat things. It was sort of shocking. Iโd recommend re-listening to that episode if youโre wanting examples of his anti-fat statements.
I focused this mostly on queer men (because thatโs what I am), but I feel like others might be able to relate. In a world that valorizes hardness, embracing softness is a courageous act of rebellion & liberation. Letโs be soft!
(...and fight against anti-fat bias everywhere!)
Canโt stop thinking about how the body ideals among lots of queer men (and others) come down to hardness. Hard muscles, hard abs, hard jawline, etc. all in opposition to physical softness. (THREAD)
Amidst those urges to have dominion over our bodies, my gentle hope is that we can slowly embrace, allow, and open up to the wisdom of our softness. Maybe we can come home to our vulnerability and the deep mystery, pleasure, weirdness, fear, and play of being human.
