I recommend following @aafcs if your an FCS educator. They have many conferences, and activities that you can go to become more involved with FCS. You can also incorporate what you've learned at these conferences into your lesson plans.

An education tool that I've seen used, and really like is Kahoot! I think it's a fun educational tool to use when reviewing for exams, or at the beginning of the year to get to know your students.

@aca11tree I haven't had experience with first day of class activities yet, but I do want to try out the jolly rancher game. Each student picks a jolly rancher, and whatever color it is there is a question on the board coordinated with it they have to answer.
