Joint Statement: Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google's Gemini models and cloud technology. These models will help power future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri coming this year.

After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google's Al technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users. The Instagram for iPad app launch makes this even more relevant: switching to the web app isn’t just cleaner, it cuts one more layer of device-level tracking. Convenience vs. privacy, that's the daily tradeoff.

🤯 Instagram is testing new iOS push notifications that include a profile photo. Each time the notification is shown on your screen, it triggers a GET request to fetch that image, letting Meta track every on-screen impression.

The app still misuses push notifications to send detailed device analytics about the device (uptime, battery, volume, locale, timezone, memory, CPU, etc.). We detailed this last year and we checked again today. Meta collects everything it needs to track users across apps, a practice strictly prohibited by Apple.

Stop using the native app. Use the web app.

True.

But if your official rate is a fantasy—
and there’s no forex, no confidence, and a growing black market—

Then resisting devaluation is destructive.

It causes more shortages, fuels the black market, distorts prices and incentives, and encourages corruption.

And when a devaluation finally comes, it’s often steeper and more chaotic than if it had been done earlier.
