Mental hospital. Declared better. Released.
Husband stayed. They had three more kids.
She drowned those three too.

Same house. Same bathtub. Same excuse. Six dead children because a system treated a child killer like a patient who just needed time.

That is the whole argument. Not “was she sad.” Not “did she hear voices.” What happens after you let them out, and who pays for it the second time.

Lindsay Clancy strangled her three kids. People are already writing her a sympathy card and calling prison cruel. Cruel is three little bodies. Cruel is doing it once and getting a path back to freedom. Cruel is pretending history didn’t already run this experiment and lose six kids.

Mental illness can explain how someone gets there. It does not give you a free murder. It does not entitle you to more children. And it does not require the rest of us to wait around and see if the next round dies too.

If you kill your kids, you don’t get to be a mother again. You don’t get a soft landing and a second family. Life without parole. Lock the door. Stop experimenting on other people’s children and making excuses.

Convict her. Convict those who harm children. Period.

It is a perfectly reasonable standard for a society to set that if you murder a child, your life is over. If you wanna let an insanity plea spare them from the death penalty? Fine. But they must die in prison. It’s not about punishment. It’s just protection. If you could snap and kill a kid, you simply can’t be trusted around people anymore. No matter what triggered it. This is in no way controversial.

It’s not like these baby killers are out curing cancer or something. They can rot in jail and ask God for mercy. We have become way too tolerant of criminality and way too compassionate towards the dregs of society. We have to stop wasting our compassion on baby killers and drug zombies. We have fire victims in Altadena and the Palisades and Spokane and Paradise (still) who are completely screwed and we are using up all our energy and empathy on the worst people in society. Governor Shapiro's unseemly rush to Lancaster County to convene a national press conference and his giddy delight in announcing two measles deaths was a morose commentary on the contemporary political dialogue. The performance was a replay of the Democrats' COVID playbook: fearmongering, misinformation, finger-pointing, and the weaponization of infectious disease fears for political gain.

The announcement appears to have been premature, and the deaths may even have been altogether fabricated by one of the Governor's hopeful staffers. The Lancaster County Coroner says that it has no record of any measles deaths. State law requires that all measles deaths be reported to the coroner.

Governor Shapiro shattered tradition and violated standard public health policy by refusing to share information with the County Health Department or CDC.

Since I have been in office, CDC has had a superb record of cooperation, information sharing, and professionalism with blue- and red-state governors and health officials. Those collaborations have resulted in effective control of the global measles outbreak in this country.

Governor Shapiro got his headlines. He correctly gambled that the slavish mainstream media would dutifully amplify his scolding without any effort to check his facts.
