@woodrow4co 100%. It’s the people in our circles that matter to me. I can say “the US is often a bad country who kills civilians” and most dems nod. I say the same about Israel and a bunch respond with “why don’t you complain about China, you just hate Jews”.
@woodrow4co And when I critique the US, nobody blinks. But I say the same thing about Israel and it’s potentially anti-Semitic. That is what I find disingenuous about it.
@woodrow4co Israel and the US hold themselves out as beacons of morality. As the shining light on the hill. But too often, they are just hypocrites who act like Russia and China. That is why we are so frustrated with them.
@woodrow4co I DO hold them to a higher standard. US, Israel, most of Western Europe etc are all democracies. They are held to a way higher standard than China, Russia, terrorist orgs etc. You don’t think they should be?
@woodrow4co This is where we disagree. I think about 5% of the lefts anti-Zionism is anti semitism. It exists but it’s small. I suspect you think it’s much higher. I just don’t see that.
@woodrow4co I guess I can see that. But can you admit that a lot of people also say that a lot of criticism of Israel is antisemitism? That is the number 1 defense to, in my view, very valid criticisms.
@woodrow4co Yes. I don’t blame SA for Islamophobia. And I don’t blame Israel for anti-semitism. I blame them both for doing really evil things in the world. And I blame the US for arming and funding them.
@woodrow4co I blasted our support of Saudi Arabia regularly. It was one of the primary causes of 9/11. So, yes, I would. But when is the last time SA got us into a war?
The next big test for progressives are Colorado’s primaries on June 30th. Diana DeGette has a 29-year-old democratic socialist challenger in Melat Kiros, and Hickenlooper has Julie Gonzales coming for his Senate seat.
This is gonna be fun.
I don’t know man, who is “the Democratic Party” if it’s not the voters?Democratic voters choose candidates, not party leaders. And party leaders need to listen to what voters are telling us - and right now they are demanding our party be bolder.
@CNLiberalism The incumbents have no one to blame but themselves. Most could have avoided primaries by calling it a genocide and loudly opposing AIPAC and any funding/arming of Israel. But they didn’t. So now they don’t have jobs.
