🔬A new Nature Communications study evaluated a multimodal AI test that combined routine H&E pathology slides with standard clinical information. 🧠

Across 8,161 patients from 15 cohorts in seven countries, the model showed prognostic value for recurrence across major breast cancer subtypes.
In external validation, the AI test achieved a pooled C-index of 0.71 for disease-free interval.

It also showed prognostic activity in triple-negative breast cancer, where guideline-supported recurrence assays remain limited:

🔹 TNBC C-index: 0.71
🔹 HR: 3.81 for disease-free interval

In a retrospective comparison among patients with Oncotype DX results, the AI model showed numerically higher prognostic discrimination. 📊

But this is an important distinction: the model predicts risk, not treatment benefit. It cannot yet determine who can safely avoid chemotherapy or who should receive treatment escalation.

The next step is prospective validation showing that AI-guided decisions improve patient outcomes. 🎯
