We are currently conducting a volunteer training session in Kayunga District to prepare for the pilot of @UwezoUganda 2026 National Learning Assessment.
This training is designed to equip our team with a deep understanding of Uwezoโs purpose and to ensure they master the citizen-led assessment approach.
The pilot involves volunteers from 18 villages who will assess children aged 4-16 in literacy, numeracy, life skills, and values in 24 households in the selected village.

As we celebrate #AfricaDay today, we at @UwezoUganda believe that Africaโs future depends on investing in foundational learning, life skills and values-not simply as an education priority but also as a broader continental development priority.

In our #LifeSkillsandValues Weekend Series, @UwezoUganda shares a vivid example where children learn to construct a house using local materials and resources, work together and turn ideas into reality that adapt to their hilly terrains in Isingiro district.
Meanwhile, all this is done through play-which also reinforces nurturing creativity, collaboration, planning, problem-solving and innovation.
Following the field practice held yesterday for the pre-pilot of ICAN-ICAR-ICASEL; teams are reflecting today, on what challenged them, what worked well, and what they would improve. The teams in both Yumbe and Isingiro districts will later today be flagged off to commence a household-based assessment to run for the next 3 days where children aged 5โ16 in both host and refugee communities will be assessed.
The training of volunteers on the pre-pilot process to test the feasibility of integrating Reading, Numeracy and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) assessments in both the Emergency and Non-Emergency household settings has concluded in Yumbe and Isingiro districts.
Teams have been deployed and @UwezoUganda, @palnetworkHQ, @YfcUganda and @CCEDUC1 look forward to the monitoring and support supervision phase-that kicks off tomorrow.
In Isingiro, our very own Faridah Nassereka @FNMubiru has concluded walking surveyors through part of the ICASEL tools-drawing on varied scenarios to assess children aged 5โ16 in host and refugee communities. She is being supported by @PiusAkol and @JamalM62191953 as @UwezoUganda trainers, as well as @usmnaz of @palnetworkHQ plus the DC/VC from @YfcUganda.
The other teams supporting training in Yumbe district included: @JocelynBADiva and @josephatkasasa from @UwezoUganda who have also held several day's sessions-including role-plays, and who were equally supported by the district partner @CCEDUC1.

Children and young people often throw at us quite unexpected questions that demand immediate answers. How do you usually deal with such cases? Are you the type that shuts them up, or do you deflect back the question to trigger them to think more deeply?
Share with us what you are doing, and whether you would like ideas from us on how to better support childrenโs curiosity and problem-solving.
#LifeSkillsandValues #ProblemSolvingSkills #Curiosity
What if the biggest lesson a child needs tomorrow does not begin in the classroom, but with the support we give today? Most of us had someone who encouraged us in our learning journey. Today, let us be that person for a child. A little reading, listening and encouragement can shape a lifetime of learning.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prof. JC Ssekamwa, former Dean of Education at Makerere University and former Dean of the School of Education, Humanities and Sciences at Nkumba University.
Prof. Ssekamwa served on Uwezo Ugandaโs National Advisory Committee from 2014 to 2015. His wisdom and contributions greatly shaped our organisational development, and we remember his service with deep admiration.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the many students he mentored. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.

๐CONDOLENCES: ๐ญWe are shocked by the horrific tragedy in which four innocent children lost their lives at Ggaba daycare centre, Makindye Division, Kampala City this, Thursday, 2nd April, 2026. @UwezoUganda extends its deepest condolences to the affected families, and urges all responsible actors to prioritise safety for all children.
On #WorldWaterDay celebrated yesterday, @UwezoUganda prompts us-using her 2024 national assessment findings, that boreholes dominate as the main water source for most schools-where 41.5% use it for drinking. Interestingly as well, 30% of schools visited do not treat their drinking water. We should strengthen safe water access for childrenโs health and learning.
