What an awesome week attending the Australia and New Zealand Tree Ring conference in Aukland, catching up with amazing colleagues followed by a short field trip to collect some new samples #dendro#tree-rings
Are we adequately promoting climate change and heatwave adaption for the elderly? Disaster and Volatile Events (DAVES) @UON_research https://t.co/d6GEihpflL @Beehelzebub@KiddVerdon@kjmaund13
Our new paper on using seasonal palaeo-flow reconstructions and artificial neural networks for water balance modelling has just been published! Interested in how the past can inform hydroclimate risk? Read more π https://t.co/ts72bMsakh
Fantastic week sampling River red gums and Coolabah trees in the Gwydir for a dendrochronology project looking at large tree viability and recruitment. I also learnt quite a few new tricks for extracting stuck cores from the amazing Dr Jonathan Palmer π
These Turpentine trees was felled in the 1880s to build a jetty at Catherine Hill Bay. Extracting some discs today and itβs amazing how well the wood has been preserved. Now to find out how old they were when felled. Stay tunedβ¦.@UON_research

What a great two days with our GEOS2050 students (catchments and climate) studying water management in the Hunter on day 1 and stream gauging along the Karuah River on day 2 with @hydrogeoscience@Uni_Newcastle
Excited to share our new paper on two multi century seasonal streamflow reconstructions for western Tasmania! We show streamflow has been declining in the last 100 years but the 15th century was much drier. Awesome team of co-authorsπhttps://t.co/DfFirr1RGp
We also show that SAM and the Subtropical Ridge influence western Tasmanian streamflow.
Also, while the reconstructions may help inform past variability for other mainland Australian regions care needs to be taken as the seasonal teleconnections differ.
