A community initiative to honour the Irish WW1 ex-servicemen/families of the Killester Garden Village, the largest WW1 ex-servicemen housing estate in Ireland.

The British Normandy Memorial will host a Service of Remembrance to mark the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. You can watch the service LIVE at 9.30am BST (10.30am French time) this Saturday 6th June: https://t.co/AYN98mF6gc
The service will be attended by a small group of Normandy and Second World War Veterans, Lord Richard Dannatt (Memorial Chairman), Sir Thomas Drew @UKinFrance and Lord @Vernon_Coaker (whose Uncle is named on the Memorial), plus other dignitaries.
French schoolchildren will take part, alongside Youth Ambassador Alexander Churchill, Sir Winston Churchill's great-great-grandson.
5/The 1926 for was slightly different to 1911. Including the employer’s name was very useful. Many war veterans in Killester were working for British Ministry of Pensions, Irish Sailors & Soldiers Land Trust and Guinnesses.

Similar sets of medals of service in various conflicts such as the Boer War, WW1, WW2, The Emergency and even the Garda Scott Medal have all been earned by veterans who lived in the Killester Garden Village! ☘️🌹
A group representing a Dubliners service in 2 World Wars. The WW1 medals are for service with The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. The Emergency medal & badges are for service in WW2 with the Irish Army. This set was acquired from the recipient’s daughter approximately 25 years ago.

We have submitted a request to DCC to reinstate the missing 'Abbeyfield' nameplate sign onto the Legion Hall which we are delighted to know that works are due in Q1 2026 for the reinstatement. We have also requested an update of the vintage style nameplates in the area. 📜📌
The Public Domain Team have been replacing some defective DCC Street Nameplates around the North Central Area. 🪧

Christmas trees are currently being put up on the main thoroughfares and in urban villages right across the North Central Area.
