The real heroes on Kenyan roads are not the people cutting ribbons for projects they did not build.
The real heroes are the ordinary Kenyans who see a dangerous pothole, pick a shovel, carry sand, stones or murram, and try to save lives on a road they did not destroy.
These people are doing unpaid public service in a country where citizens already pay fuel levy, taxes, parking fees, tolls and endless charges meant to maintain the same roads.
They do not wait for cameras or issue press statements or arrive with chase cars and photographers...they just see danger and act.
A country that forces good Samaritans to repair public roads with their own hands has failed them, but those Kenyans deserve respect because they are the only reason some accidents have not happened.
