It's pretty clear from their very first appearance that the comics wants you to have SOME sympathy for them

@shebakayo @RobinPoedev I'd need to search to find it, but I think there was an interview from Miyazaki where he likened it to his experience of seeing the foreign movies his parents were watching, and only being able to parse out what was going on through incomplete and vague context clues.

I never really took the time to notice it, but yeah now that you mention it, Directs and Directs-like shows do definitely have this weird class divide between
"Game that gets talked over" and "Big Pants Game that gets a self-sufficient trailer because Gravitas Mode Is Engaged"
