@ABDanielleSmith
Premier Smith, criminal defence lawyers are concerned about your use of s. 33. Please reconsider your use of this legislation. https://t.co/bzxCWS17fb
This has been a long time coming. Thank you to all the defence lawyers who held the line. Our work isn't done yet with the issues with Legal Aid Alberta, but let's take a moment and celebrate this victory.
@MLAIrfanSabir@LegalAidAlberta@ABDanielleSmith The micro problem: people can't get lawyers, Legal Aid is putting family lawyers into criminal docket courts where they don't know what they're doing, and sex assault trials are being adjourned because complainants (not alleged criminals, alleged victims) can't get counsel.
So in 18 months (or less) we will see charges being stayed because the government refused to fund @LegalAidAlberta properly. Meanwhile, accused people remain in custody. It’s unacceptable and costly. Let the government know that. Write to your MLA. @CDLACalgary@AlbertaCTLA
@shandro@ABDanielleSmith
Do both of you not understand how the rule of law works, or are you just lying outright to Albertans now?

@shandro If you think there are no problems with Legal Aid, why take credit for increasing the tariff? If there are no problems, why did anything have to happen at all? Your actions betray your words.
@madaboutbeer @RachelNotley@LegalAidAlberta Did we not hear earlier this year that the GoA has a multibillion surplus? Legal Aid only needs less than $50 million to get the situation. The math says no deficit.
