Presiden Prabowo Subianto menyetujui tawaran Menteri Pertahanan Amerika Serikat Pete Hegseth untuk menjadikan Indonesia sebagai pusat pemeliharaan pesawat angkut militer C-130 Hercules. Ini disampaikan Menteri Pertahanan Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

Sjafrie menyampaikan hal itu dalam rapat bersama Komisi I DPR pada Selasa (19/5). Sjafrie mengatakan, Prabowo siap menyediakan Bandara Kertajati untuk disulap jadi pusat pemeliharaan dan perbaikan pesawat Hercules.

"Dia (Pete Hegseth) menawarkan, dan ini tidak ada di negara ASEAN. Dia (Pete Hegseth) menawarkan, bagaimana kalau pemeliharaan C-130 di seluruh Asia, saya pusatkan di Indonesia atas biaya kami (AS). Saya tidak bisa jawab langsung. Saya lapor Bapak Presiden, [kata presiden] kasih [Bandara] Kertajati. Kita sedang bekerja untuk itu," kata Sjafrie dikutip Rabu (20/5).

Saat ini, Bandara Kertajati merupakan bandara internasional yang melayani sejumlah rute, tapi cenderung sepi. Kini, Bandara Kertajati dari lokasi keberangkatan dan kepulangan (embarkasi dan debarkasi) jemaah haji di Jawa Barat (KJT). Bila nanti Bandara Kertajati disulap jadi bengkel Hercules, bandara ini akan jadi tempat maintenance, repair, and overhaul pesawat Hercules se-Asia. Prosesnya tentu bertahap.
